Title: John Redman and Elizabeth, marriage/death details
Post by: robsgenealogy on Tuesday 03 July 12 16:51 BST (UK)
Hi there,
John Redman and wife Elizabeth, abt 1821 and 1822 respectively, are in my tree and appear several times in census' from 1851 onwards. Place of birth is stated as Cliviger for both. I've been unable to pinpoint a marriage or death/burial record for these two. Winifred and Thomas are living with them on 1851 at 17 Hole House in Cliviger, parish of St. John's, Holme.  Would appreciate any help with this :)
Kind thanks
Rob

Could they be the John Redman to Elizabeth Redman marriage in 1848 shown on Lancs BMD?  Winifred was aged 5 in 1851 and Thomas was 1yr

Lancs BMD shows a birth for Thomas in 1850 - mothers maiden name Redman

Re: deaths - what's the last census you found either of them on - both still alive in 1871 and Elizabeth is a widow in 1881

Have you checked freebmd for a death for John between 1871-1881 in the Burnley Registration District

I just found a 55 year old John Redman death in Burnley, 1877. I think that could be him.

Elizabeth is not found on the 1881 but there is a death in 1883 on freebmd that looks likely - aged 63

1861 census shows additional children as follows - all b Cliviger:

Sarah Ann   9
Robert   8
Mary 5
Theresa   4
Catherine   2
John   1
plus an aunt - Betty Harrison b 1779 Cliviger

Thanks, carole
the Aunt Betty looks like an interesting one to try and locate on earlier census, it might give me some clues about the family. Very possible that Elizabeth was named after Betty.

Betty was a widow so Harrison was her married name
