Hello Fellow Searches,
I am looking for information on Edmund Reed Jones. Birth, siblings etc. I believe he was born somewhere in South Wales about 1828?
His father, John, was a "sugar refiner?"
He married Mary Ann Hunt in Bristol, Gloucester on Jan 6th 1884.
They emigrated with their family to Australia in 1857.

what information was given for Edmund on the cert? What occupation? Was he shown as under 21? Do the names of the witnesses help?
I'm assuming that the marriage was in 1848 not 1884...
Where in the UK were the children born ? This might help to find them in the 1851 census. If you have the census info, please give the reference.

Have not got the actual marriage certificate but found the marriage on Family Search. Marriage to Mary Ann
Hunt on the 6th January, 1848 at St Pauls Bristol Gloucester. Daughter Mary Ann Christening 20th August,1848
Bristol Gloucester, son Edmund Reed born about 1851 have not been able to find his birth, son John christening
5th June, 1853Bristol Gloucester, William born about 1856 have not been able to find his birth.

Probably the Edmund Reed Jones chr. at St Cenau, Llangenny in Brecknockshire, Wales 13th July 1827.

this could be a match for them in 1851, albeit without Mary Ann born 1848

His baptism is in the LMA records on Ancestry & confirms the middle name of Read & birth date of 5/3/1850

Thanks to Colin and Osprey for your help. Edmund worked in the Government Printing Office here as
a bookbinder so I would say that was him.

Hi Terry. I have today visited the grave of Daniel William Jones and family who is the son of Edmund Read Jones here in Brisbane Queensland Australia.
The family arrived in 1857 on the ship Alfred. They had on board with them four children.
They lived in Chippendale Sydney NSW. Edmund died 1928 in Ryde NSW. Mary Ann (Hunt) died 1891 Ryde NSW.
They had a further three children after they arrived, one deceased the other Daniel William Jones b1859 Chippendale NSW died 31st May 1927 in Brisbane Queensland.
Sarah Jones B1861 Chippendale NSW died Unknown. On the Marriage Certificate the Jones name is Edmund Read Jones. He was a Bookbinder. Witnesses were--William Hunt ( signed with X)and Cecilia Jones.
John Jones's occupation Edmunds father is given as "Sugar Baker".
Do you have any other information that would be of help to me?

Hello Sally, Good to hear from you, my name is Carol Thomson and Edmund was my gg grandfather. His daughter,
Mary Ann was my g grandmother. Her youngest daughter, Mabel Alice Chambers was my grandmother. I do have
the shipping records for the Alfred. Edmund's brother, Daniel and his wife and daughter arrived in Sydney in 1849.
After arriving in Sydney in 1857, William the youngest child died. Daniel was born in 1857 and died in 1858. John
also died in 1858. Daniel William was born in 1859. Sarah, born and and died in 1861. There was also another
male who died. The family stayed in NSW for 5 years before moving to Brisbane. Edmund worked for the Government
Printing Office. Mary Ann married James Chambers in 1863. I have not been able to find a death for Mary Ann wife
of Edmund. Edmund died in 1902 and is buried with Daniel William At Toowong. Edmund Jnr died at the Mental
Hospital in Rydalmere in 1928. Mary Ann Chambers died in 1922 and is buried at Toowong. I too have seen the
graves at Toowong Cemetery. Have also managed to track down siblings of Edmund. He was born in Wales and
the others born in Bristol. I have been trying to find the marriage for Edmund's parents but with a surname of
Jones and christian names of John and Mary it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
What is your connection to Edmund? Do you live in Brisbane?

Hi there,
I'm not descended from Edmund Read Jones but am interested in him as he was a friend of my g-g-grandfather, John Davies of Ferney Lawn, Kedron Brook (now known as Ferny Grove in Brisbane) in the 1860s and John appointed he and Charles Fulwood (both Bookbinders) executor of his Will and also guardian of his children whilst they remained under age and living with their step-mother. Initially he also left household items to Edmund & Charles but a codicil 5 days before his death (John died on 5 Nov 1874) negated this and willed everything to the step-mother, his 2nd wife.
John Davies was born in Radnorshire and his family continued living in that area before finally moving to Builth, Breconshire and a sister in law of John's married an Edward Jones of Nantmel, Radnor so I had intially wondered if Edmund Read Jones was a relation but I think not.

Hello, good to hear from you my gg.grandfather was Edmund Reed Jones. He was born in Wales
about 1827. He had about 5 other siblings but they were all born in Gloucester. I don't know what the
Welsh connection is but his daugher Mary Ann was also born in Wales. Edmund married Mary Ann Hunt on the 6th January, 1848. Three more children were born before the family emigrated to Australia arriving in Sydney. Edmund's brother, Daniel was already in Sydney with his wife and daughter. Another 3 children were born in Sydney before the family moved to Brisbane.
