William Evans and Ann Nicholas were my great great grandparents. Both were born, according to the census records, in Llarthney, Carmarthenshire. William was born between 1827 and 1832 and Ann was born in about 1835. I think Ann was the daughter of John and Catherine Nicholas.
I have been unable to find a marriage between William and Ann. I found them on the 1861 census in Alltygrug in the parish of Llangiwg , Glamorganshire. I know this is them as Ann's brother, Richard Nicholas, is living with them and he crops again in the later census. According to the 1861 census, they had one son, Thomas (born abt. 1852 - he was 9 in 1861). He was born in Carmarthen or more likely the county of Carmarthenshire. I have searched the marriage indexes for this period and so far I have been unable to locate a marriage between William and Ann. If Thomas was born in Carmarthenshire, I assume the marriage took place there also. I know that by 1871 the family had settled in Aberdare (Glamorgan).
Any suggestions how I can go about locating this marriage?
Thanks in advance

They're in Neath registration district in 1861 - there is a set of marriages in Neath in Q3 1858 involving an Anne Nicholas and a William Evans (ref Vol 11a page 564c)
No guarantee they married each other, though

Thanks for that info. This could quite possibly be the marriage I'm looking for. Because the 1861 census says their son Thomas was 9, I've been looking for a marriage around 1850. According to the 1871 census, another son, Thomas, was 10 (so born abt. 1861) and born in Ystalyfera. I'm now wondering whether the age recorded for Thomas in 1861 is wrong and there was only one son called Thomas.
I think I'll need to order the marriage certificate and see what that says.
Thanks again.

but haven't found Ann's so far. Possible marriage for John Nicholas & Catherine Thomas 4/2/1831 in Llanarthney.

That's very helpful and definitely something I will need to look at into more detail.
Thanks
