Hi I have been searching my Grandfather Thomas Barrow born 1822, I have found that he may of been a visitor/boarder at an address in Salford.
Can anyone read the census and tell me what his occupation was and where he was born as the census record has been water damaged.
Also if he was a visitor why would he be in Salford
Good luck to anyone who can read it,

Hi,
It looks as though the birth place is Lancashire, Manchester.

In 1841 there is a 20 year old Thomas Barrow, also apparantly lodging in Salford - his occupation looks like 'Printer Ap'. (Appentice Printer maybe).
Regards June
PS My Gt Grandfather was a Printer/Compositor --- and he seemed to move from area to area - I have no idea why - but it was presumably for work reasons - I would love to know the reason.

It has been pointed out to me that, in accordance with Rootschat rules, I need to quote the census reference numbers - hence the ref no. for Thomas Barrow in 1841 is;
HO107/585/20/1

Thank you for all your efforts in trying to read the census, but I think I have solved my problem:
I couldn't find the census for 1851 and 1861 for my Grandparents, My Grandmothers name was Harriet, and I was told today that Harriet could be nick named as Ann, I have now since found the census's I was looking for - has anyone come across this before ( Harriet= Ann).
I knew she lived on after these census because I found her as Harriet again with all the same children?? It did baffle me but I am certain this is correct
thanks to everyone who took time to reply and please do if let me know if this is incorrect

Are you sure he was a printer
and do you know where he married Harriet
Thomas Barrow of Ditton and Harriet
children ,Martha,Jane,Alice,Hannah,Rober,baptised St Wilfrid Prescot
1844 onwards,father a watchmaker
-
I seen that Radcliff , and that was my first thought ....although it says Prescot - it`s actually St Wilfrid in Farnworth , which was in the Prescot Register area
( Farnworth is now within Widnes )...to walk to Farnworth from Ditton would take about 15 minutes -

This is the right family, thomas was a watch maker and also a publican in later census's, it was just the name Harriet that confused me. St Wilfred was the Parish in that era.

I have a working Thomas Barrow tall case clock here in the U.S. Was looking for information on him and came across your message. My husband was from Manchester and when he saw the clock in an antique store here, he "had to have it".
If you're interested, i could send you a picture.
