No census ref. yet I'm afraid - she ws born Jamaica 2.10.1844 and her father, George Brown, an army surgeon, died just before she was born. She would have been nearly 17at the 1961 census. Her mother wouldn't allow her to be educated in Jamaica therefore the Clifton School. Mother was a Vidal a big family in Jamaica and here at that time. Many thanks for your input

Got the census info now thank you and much other info. Very interesting and helpful. Many thanks

Could she be related to Vice Admiral Alexander Thomas Emeric Vidal,he is buried not far from Arlington Villas and died at 13 Sion Hill Clifton, also only a short walk from Arlington Villas in 1863.

There are so many Vidals around here and in Jamaica. We understood Ellen was here at school with Vidals as 'chaperones' so seems like a possible connection. There were also a lot of Rowe connections with th Bristol area so likely wheels within wheels. A sideline for he future maybe!
