Hi

Ancestry has England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966. This usually shows when and where the person died, the amount they left and  who the executors were. I've found it very useful and interesting.

You can get copies of wills on line from here  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/wills.asp

Wills and Other Probate Records, Karen Grannum and Nigel Taylor, National Archives 2004, ISBN 1 903365 49 X is an excellent reference work - worth buying for the bookshelf or borrowing from the library.

Hi,

If you are especially interested in Staffordshire wills, those proved before 1858 are kept at Lichfield Record Office - http://www.rootschat.com/links/0ogl/  - where you can search for them yourself if you are able to visit, and to see the actual wills, and order photocopies if required.
