Looking for info on Ernest Stead born in Rochdale in 1906. He married Gladys M Jackson in Rochdale in 1928 but I can't find any info on his death. He would be my husbands cousin and we would be delighted for any info. Thank you.

Hiya ...do you have the death of his wife Gladys ???...if so - where and when did she die ?....there is one that matches her age ,but it is in Truro ??? quite a way from Rochdale ...if we know where Gladys died ,it may give a pointer to where Ernest was

I think that Keyboard is right here ...I can`t name names because this man may still be alive ...but the youngest son of Ernest and Gladys had quite an unusual christian name b 1934 - and this name appears again in a birth in 1960 - in BLACKPOOL...maybe Ernest went to live with his youngest son before he died ...or those birth names are a big coincidence ..

Hello Garstonite, I have only just found out that Ernest married Gladys in 1928 in Rochdale. I am sorry that I don't have any more information.
Regards
Jean
-
Hello again Garstonite, Is there any way I can find out who the son is/was. Or the family. We live in Australia and thought we were the only Steads from Rochdale and we are hoping to trace other living members of the Stead clan.
Regards again

These 2 gentlemen
b 1934 Rochdale
b 1960 Blackpool
if it is the son and grandson of Ernest and Gladys ....they are BOTH in the 2012 Electoral role in Blackpool at different addresses....and judging by the names on the role , they both look like Guesthouses / Hotels
info on
www.192.com
am I allowed to post this info ?...not sure ...if not sincere apologies and could an administrator remove details ...
Jean ...I am sending you a PM

OK...I need a little help here ..I have had a PM from Jean ...
she knows that Edmund Stead was the father of Ernest Stead - and that Edmunds brother was her direct link - so
Jean - can you post your husbands Grandfathers name please
then we have .
Edmund Stead b 1881 in Wardleworth ,Rochdale
marries in 1904 to
Dinah Ann Wrigley at St Thomas church ,Newhey, Rochdale CE35/1/242
on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
this couple looks to be the parents of Ernest b 1906 ...could someone else give a point of view please .
in 1901 census Edmund Stead aged 20 is down as a son - still in Wardleworth ,St Marys parish ,(Rochdale )
could someone please post the family please ...
on familysearch there is an entry for a Thomas Stead that goes back as early as 1707 in Wardleworth - , so the Stead family are in Wardleworth , 300 years ago
thanks....allan

Thats great Heather....I am pretty sure that William Stead aged 21 in 1901 , the brother of Edmund aged 20 in the census is Jeans husbands Grandfather .
We need confirmation off Jean .
thanks very much Heather ...this seems to be all coming together now...
watch Jean spoil it and say it`s not William !!...lol
cheers

Maden births with Mother's maiden name Mills
Enoch Maden born Bury 1841
John born Wardleworth 1842
Edward born Birtle Bury 1846
Hannah Rochdale 1847

Hannah Maden born 1847, Castleton Further, Rochdale.

Have to be careful , because there is a marriage in 1844 at St Chads ,Rochdale of John Maden to Sarah Mills ...so looks like TWO Maden/Mills families having children in Rochdale .

Don't seem to be able to find James and Hannah Stead in 1881
-
Jean has confirmed that William IS the brother of Edmund ...
this is only my view on this ,but having looked at the freebmd - there is no Ernest Stead born in Blackpool around 1906 - so the Blackpool death aged 71 that Keyboard found has to be taken into consideration as a very possible...only a death cert will confirm this...also ..Ernests youngest son L***** Stead ...there is a L***** Stead b Blackpool 1960 ....same name ,which is not a common Christian name ..
it all points to Ernest going to Blackpool...only one way to find out though...you need the details off that death certificate ..

Don't seem to be able to find James and Hannah Stead in 1881
Hello Heather, Thank you for posting the informatiion on the Stead family, I appreciate your help. I did have some of the census records but not others.
In 1881 James and Hannah were listed as Head not Stead.
Kind regards and thanks

I have recently stumbled across this web chat site whilst trying to find out more about our family history. My Dad had an uncle, Ernest Stead, that emigrated to Australia from Rochdale just after the First World War. Unfortunately, that is as much information as we know but he had a brother Tom and five sisters, one of which was my Dad's Mum. I wonder if this is of any value to Jean Stead on here?
