Title: Maria Gibbs nee Johnston born Ireland 1839

Hi am researching this Johnston family and have found a daugher, (previously unkown of) born 1839 Westmeath Ireland. She first appear on the 1861 Census...then marriage to Frederick Gibbs, Cirencester in 1887, however in 1891 Census she appears to be a widow.
I wonder if anyone can tell me, if there were any children from this short marriage, also as Maria was born in Ireland, I am not able to get a birth cert. I know she was born in Rockfordbridge, Westmeath,Ireland, how could I find a mother's name ? I know she was on 1881 Census but cannot find her death.
Any help most appreciated...J

I've been having a quick look. It occurs to me that your Maria might be a little old to be having children at 47? Are you sure the one you found in 1891 is the same Maria (she is quite a bit younger than b 1839)? Do you have the wedding certificate?

Sorry I didn't make myself clear...she was 20 when she first appears in 1861 Census...then not marrying until 1887 wondered if there were any born before the marriage ??  I have found this the case with my great grand parents Robert and Annie...they were married in 1880 some 10 years after the birth of their 3 sons !  Now I have found Maria Johnston (his daughter), I realise that Robert was already married (or may have been !) to a wife in Ireland !  What I would really also like to know is the name of Roberts first wife...but not much hope of that as it was Ireland.  I don't think the marriage cert would name the mother.
Any other suggestions on this would be appreciated.  Thanks  J

Hi again...I think I may have found a death for Maria, I don't know quite what is available to you but I have Maria Gibbs, born 1838 (can you establish Ireland ?) death Gloucester 1911 age 73.  Thanks J  (mariage info notice in Gloucester Citizen, 1887)s

Just wondered if you were able to find any death record for Maria Gibbs...I do think it may have been in Gloucester  As I mentioned she was born 1838, married 1887, I have a copy of the marriage notice in the Gloucester Citizen ...I also think she is on the 1901 census, as living in Gloucester from information contributors have kindly given me.

Any help please, much appreciated.

Thanks Jane....believe me I have tried...this lady Maria has only just come to light !  I have been researching for about 12 years...that is the exciting thing you never know what will be uncovered, even when you think you have discovered all your relatives.
