James Winchester married Sarah Ann Hamilton in 1861 and with several children immigrated to New Zealand in 1874 from County Down.
James had a brother Christopher Winchester who married Jane Pollock. Their children are James 1868, Christopher 1869, Hamilton 1871, Robert 1872, Mary 1874, and David 1876. Does anyone know what happened to this family?
I know James and Christopher had two sisters, Ellen who married Ephraim Burns in 1866, and Mary Jane who married William Cook in 1872. Mary Jane and William also came to New Zealand.
Any help greatly appreciated. Heather01

Is this Jane Pollock, son David and son Christopher and family in 1901?

On 9th February 1891, in Ballymore Church of Ireland, County Armagh, a Christopher WINCHESTER married Jane Elizabeth GIBSON. Maybe the same couple as in the 1901 census record?
BTW, the same family is also in the 1911 census, now living in Hillview Street...

This is a possible candidate for son Robert living in Ewart's Row in 1911, a Robert Winchester (with father Christopher) having married Elizabeth Jane Patton on the 13th April 1895 in Trinity Church of Ireland, Belfast:

And this is a possible candidate for son David living in Carnan Street in 1911, a David Winchester (with father Christopher) having married Martha Ellen McKee on the 3rd October 1906 in St. Anne's Church of Ireland, Belfast:

Wow that looks promising. Have checked the ages and they match my dates. I think you have found them. I am delighted to say the least :D
Quite exciting and will now work through the leads you have given me.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
17 Jun 1861 James Winchester married Sarah Anne Hamilton in Lurgan Civil Registrars Office.
Regards

There's also a James Winchester (with father Christopher) who married a Margaret Bigger on the 23 April 1896 in Albert Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast with a comment to the effect that James' father (Christopher) is deceased.
I couldn't see James in the Ireland census but this is a good candidate for wife Margaret in 1911:

And Mary Winchester (with father Christopher) of Whiteabbey married Joseph Lockhart of Tandragee on the 7th July 1915 in Ballymore Church of Ireland, the same church where Christopher Winchester married Jane Elizabeth Gibson 24 years earlier in 1891. Possibly related?
I've sent you an email if you want more detail...

Heather01, I have sent you a PM regarding the marriages for the Christopher Winchester - Jane Pollock children.

A big thank you for all the help. Haven't managed to extend the height of my tree but it's width has grown and that is satisfying too. :)

Christopher Winchester and his wife Jane Pollock are the parents of Robert James Winchester, born in 1872. He married Elizabeth Jane Patton and gave birth to my great grandfather William Winchester in 1909, who married an Esobelle Kennedy, I believe. They then gave birth to my grandfather (*) born in 1943, who married (*). She gave birth to my father, (*)Winchester born in 1964, who married my mother (*), who had me, (*) born in 2000 and my sister, (*) in 2004. We live in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and are directly related to Christopher through his son Robert, who was born in county Down, Northern Ireland. Hope that helps your search, I know it's been a while since you asked this, but I thought I'd reply in case you came across it again.

This might not be of much interest to you, though a distant relative of mine, ie: Margaret Bigger (born 1864) married a James Winchester on the 23/5/1896 in the Belfast District. I don't think they had any children, and unfortunately I know nothing about James's background. Good luck with your research.

James father was Christopher and he was deceased at the time of the marriage.
A Robert Winchester was witness.
