Hello, this couple are my great great great grandparents and years ago the photo was folded. I have managed to reseat what popped up. I hope it will be good enough for you to repair and restore the photo as it is very special to the family. I have not requested any colourising because I have no idea of what colours would be appropriate. But if you want to have a go, that would be really great.

Hello peterjohn. What a lovely surprise. I just looked for the number of reads (as 23 times) and saw your contribution. Thank you peterjohn.

Hello Wiggy, this is really great to have. The repair worked so well and the definition has not been lost. Much appreciated.

Hi AussieRoss :)
Although this is scanned at 600dpi, it looks as though some major compression has been applied, so that the image has turned out really blocky and lacks definition. If possible, could you scan again, at 300dpi, and use the resizing instructions here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,372537.0.html to get the image small enough to post.

Is that what it is!
Another play around.

Hello Everybody.
I have rescanned the image at 300DPI and reduced the pixel size from W 780 X H 1240 down to W 390 X H 620. This action resulted in the KB size reducing from 148KB down to 43.4KB.
I apologise for any inconvenience to you all and advise that in future I shall repeat this exercise everytime before I post an image for any work to be done. :-[ :o

Hi AussieRoss :)
Something is still going wrong I think, not that I want to nag... ;) ;D
If you scanned at 300dpi I would have expected the file to be much bigger than 148kb. Have a look at Cazza's scanning tutorial at the top of the resources board, and see if that helps solve the problem: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,198165.0.html
Also, you don't need to make a 148kb file smaller to post here - 500kb is the maximum file size you're allowed, so you would be well within that ;)
OK, lecture over! ;D I'm sure the restorers will do/have done the best they can with what you've already posted.
All the best

Like this old chap his suit has been around a long time, you don't see many flyless trousers in the 1870's which is when this was taken. His beard called a Newgate Frill was popular in the 50's & 60's with a lot of older men keeping them all their lives.
She's a bit more up to date in pretty much standard 1870's wear. The cardstock with rounded corners means 1875 is the earliest date & probably no later than 1880.
