I have been trying to delete old email addresses that have changed in my BT yahoo mail account if I delete the address from the contacts list or right click on the address on the compose message page and use the drop down menu remove address the result is the same the email address is still remembered when the first letter is typed in for new emails. I have 2 laptops using windows 7 and windows XP both do the same.
Thanks for any help

As likely as not, this is down to the email client that you are using.
Which one is it?

I am using Google Chrome if that's what you mean.
Thanks

Hi Sirius
I presume you do the same as me and view your e-mails remotely on the BTYahoo website. I've just had a look and I can't see a way to get rid of addresses in the drop-down box; right-clicking on an address doesn't give an option to delete from the list ???
It's not a problem for me at the moment but I'd be interested in a solution for the future.

Hi Gaie
When send a new email I can right click on the address I want to delete after entering it in the "to" box the drop down box has remove address as an option. As I have said I have also deleted in the contacts, but it keeps remembering it in the "to" box. I tried accessing BTYahoo
login via internet explorer, made no difference ??? ??? ???

Doesn't the "to" box contain about 8-10 email addresses that will eventually be taken over by the addresses you use in the future? Which means the "to" box gets "updated" with the new addresses you use pushing the older ones down the list and then out?
Maybe eventually the deleted email addresses will vanish ???

I think the drop-down "to" box shows email addresses from your Inbox, rather than those from your address book. So if you still have an email in your inbox from that old address, it will still appear in the drop down list. I use a different email provider to you but this is what mine does.

Hi
When the dropdown box opens, manouvre to the unwanted address and hit the delete/del button.

I have tried before placing the cursor over the email address to be deleted in the drop down list of emails and pressing the delete key, but nothing happens also tried right clicking and that does not give you the option to delete and also holding down the left click key and high lighting
the address all have failed.
For an experiment I entered a new email address in my contacts that I knew I had no emails from either in the in box or anywhere else after deleting the new address from my contacts list it was still remembered in the drop down list from the "to" box.
Thanks

I have a Yahoo e-mail account. I tried deleting a contact and it was no problem.
What I did was click on "Contacts", click on the small "box" for said contact I want to delete, this will highlight the entry and click the "Delete" option button, right hand side of the "Assign to lists".
Then look over to the left below "All contacts" and click on "Deleted contacts"
Click on the small box for that "contact" and it highlights the entry. It will then give you 2 options. "Restore" or "Delete Permanently".
Click on Delete Permanently and its gone.

Hi
Suggest it is the setting . . . . .
ControlPanel / InternetOptions / Content / Autocomplete
(Turn it off/on there)
As you type the address use the down(and up) arrow key (not mouse) to manouvre to the address you do not want and hit the delete/del key.

Hi Flattybasher9 and CroxleyGreen
I had done the first part of deleting in contacts so I thought you were on to a winner by
going to all contacts and deleting permanently sadly it still remembers the address in the "to"
box even thou it's nowhere in the contacts or all contacts list. I also tried InternetOptions Autocomplete unticking the various options, but was still unable to delete the remembered address using CroxleyGreen instructions.
Thanks

Hi
This is what Yahoo says about it . . . . .
Can I disable or delete email addresses from the Autocomplete feature?
ID: SLN4642 Refers to: Mail
Description
The Autocomplete dropdown is suggesting wrong or old email addresses when a contact's name is entered into the address fields in Yahoo! Mail.
Resolution
Autocomplete is designed to suggest email addresses based on contacts that you have sent messages to in the past, even if they are not stored in your address book. Suggestions are sorted in order or relevance, rather than in alphabetical order.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to disable the Autocomplete feature or manually delete contacts from the Autocomplete list. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
