Title: John Hughes
Post by: Hefin_Jones on Thursday 21 June 12 04:10 BST (UK)
I am trying to find any descendants of John (Sennar) Hughes. He died on 27 Sep 1879 at Egerton, Victoria and was buried there. He was born at Bangor, Caernarvonshire, Wales, the son of Thomas Hughes and Mary Sennar. It was said that he had a family but todate I have not been able to identify any. Does any one know anything of his family.
Thankyou
Hefin

Got any more info to narrow the search a bit please - Just looking at marriage indexes and  - have any idea how many John Hughes there were in Victoria - all getting married from about 1840 - well even just as far as 1859!!    :o ;D ;D

When was he born and how old when he died - that would help.    ;)

And do you know when he arrived here in Victoria?  There are 7 John Hughes arriving in 1852 alone   ;D

There is a death register for John Tennar Hughes #8666   1879  born about 1840   this one might be OK!  Mis-transcription of name.

Possible marriage 1866 to Mary Williams   # 2056

Or one other Mary in reasonable time frame -

Mary Ann Miller   1870  # 3781

Well quite frankly I wouldn't bother with certificates for this period from Tasmania - they aren't cheap and don't tell you much usually -

Have a look at this chart and see what you will learn before buying!   Newspaper family notices often tell you more!   ;)

And in that case I would buy the certificates - Victorian certificates are good and cheaper than other states!!!   ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for putting me right Merlin.    Think I should go back to bed and start the day again!   :-[ :-[

At least I got the Mary Williams bit right - but that was another day . . . . . .  ;)

That's okay Wiggy  ;D

The other marriage in 1870 to a Mary Ann MILLER isn't him as they married in Melbourne & children were still being born in HOTHAM (North Melbourne) after 1879.
That's how I managed to eliminate that marriage  ;)
