Title: Help with M.G.C. record

I found  the following info for my Uncle on Ancestry medal rolls index cards WW1

M.G.C.  Pte 159679 and below
MGC/101. B.105 (under heading page) the number  ?662

There are no dates but I wonder if anyone could tell me how to find his records or information

hi jean
 what is left of the service records for ww1 are on ancestry as well , but bear in mind that upwards of 60% were destroyed in a bombing raid in ww2 and are known as the charred records for obvious reasons so don,t be disappointed if you don,t find them .

ps the reason all mics are still available is that they were stored in another place

Hi Jean,

The number you referred to "under heading"  is his medal roll number.  Nothing to do with his regimental number.

This reference / number is needed to view his actual medal roll index at the National Archives.

As you probably know there are no pension or service records on ancestry.  It has been known for these to be at the national archives despite not being listed on ancestry but at t mo says its a very slim chance.

Hope this is helpful.  If you go to the national archives, take along the MIC, they will be able to show you how to go through the complicated (to me) way of getting access to the medal rolls.
