Title: Templeton from Riccarton, Kilmarnock
Post by: BONNIEJEAN on Friday 15 June 12 22:43 BST (UK)
Looking for any information about Robert Templeton Printer of Riccarton who married Elizabeth Kennedy in Riccarton on December 8th 1832.
In  1841 he lived with his family in Templeton Street Riccarton.
They had 5 children
Janet b 1834
Elizabeth b 1838
Jemima b 1840
Mary b.1843
Robert b.1845
The family later moved to Glasgow Barony and Robert junior became a calico printer.Robert senior has died between 1851 and 1861
Elizabeth disappears from the trail between the census of 1871 and 1881.

Where can I find records from this period for Riccarton?

If Robert snr died 1855 -1861 his death cert will give you info re: his parents

Same for any death for Elizabeth between 1871-1881

Death certs will only be found on Scotlands People which is a pay site - purchase of credits needed to download certs

Many thanks.I am familiar with this site and use it often, but local information is more difficult ie. information about Roberts  business
Records of burials in Riccarton .
What churches were there at the time?
The minister who married Robert and Elizabeth was a Mr Mooney-where can I trace information about him?
 Any tips?

There are a collection of sites, not sure what you have already looked at. For example:

www.ayrshireroots.com/Towns/Riccarton/Riccarton.htm

www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/AYR/Riccarton/index.html  From there, a link to the 1837 Pigot's Directory which shows: * Templeton, Robt, Burnside printfid - I assume this is your Robert.

Also, www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/AYR/Riccarton/Gaz1868.html

For detailed business records, you are likely to need more detailed archives which are unlikely to be generally available online and would probably be found at one of the major archives centres in Ayrshire. Further info here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,504662.0.html
