Title: Motherwell Times Archives Online
Post by: mkcoop on Tuesday 12 June 12 19:11 BST (UK)
Is there an online archive for the Motherwell Times? I need to look up a death notice and I am in the US.

Not too sure but I doubt it. Try Motherwell Heritage Centre, I think there is an index of past editions of the M.T. in the Local History room.

Aye, they are on line but I'm not sure about the date range or % completeness within the range

Go to this website:

http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/

It's pay to view but very cheap. The shortest subscription is 48 hours costing about 7 quid. This gives you upto 100 downloads. The Advanced Search function is excellent and you can search and short-list your downloads before you start your 48 hour frenzy.

The database is still being populated (they claim 1000s of pages per day) but they have a lot of Glasgow Herald material and the Motherwell Times

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

The British Newspaper Archives is a great addition isn't. As you say, I particularly like their search function which is better than many for this.

The Glasgow Herald and the Evening Times (this one from 1951) are also available on Google News. However, no search function available on google which makes for a long tiring trawl through, so a combination of both sites is always good.

Was he one of the Donnellys from West Hamilton Street? There was a peter Donnelly who was married to Kate McGinley, she passed away last year I think. They had 3 children. I think his father was Jim Donnelly.
