Hi
I wonder if someone may be able to lookup a monumetal inscription in Larkhall Cemetery for me please?
I am looking for Margaret McNay who was buried on the 18th January 1921.
It is possible that she was buried with her brother Thomas McNay who was buried 22nd January 1943 and her sister Agnes Catherine who was buried 16th February 1931.
Any information about them would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Larkhall is a large cemetery
Do you have a lair number?
South Lanarkshire Council will identify lair number
-
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I do not know the Lair number.
I found the names on Deceased Online and I know that Thomas and Agnes are my relations. I am trying to link Margaret to them. Using Scotland's People to find the death record, Margaret's birth is 2 years different from the baptism I have for her.

Are the correct parents on her death certificate?
When was she born?
-
She was born 6th June 1863 to John and Janet McNay. I have only a few credits for SP and am trying to identify the death without having to use them if at all possible as I have quite a few other SP records to check. According to SP the Margaret whose death is listed in 1921 was born 1865 but this may have been a transcription error.

The age accuracy is dependent on the informant knowing the dob
On the SP death index does it mention her mother's maiden name or her married name?
-
Margaret was a spinster and SP does not give her mother's maiden name unfortunately. I know that she was living with her brother Thomas a one point but the death "place" on SP is not the same as her brothers. I know this doesn't mean much as she could easily have moved to work elsewhere but it does make things a little more indecisive.

Were the family from Larkhall?
-
Thomas and Agnes both died in Larkhall but the family were originally from Morton by Thornhill, Dumfriesshire. Thomas was a physician/surgeon and at one point Margaret was housekeeper for him. Father John was born 1821 Kirkmahoe and grandfather David born about 1800 Mouswald.

I have found an MI for both Margaret and Thomas.
Margaret's reads:
Sacred to the memory of Margaret McNay died 18.1.1921. Agnes Catherine McNay died 16.2.1931
And next to them Thomas's reads:
Dr McNay, J.P. In loving memory of my dear husband Thomas McNay died at Dalveen, Larkhall 22.1.1943. Also his wife Agnes McNay died 27.5.1979
Hope this helps

Hi PP
That is brilliant - thank you so much. It is exactly what I was looking for.
Many thanks again for your time.

Hi PP
I wonder if the transcription for Thomas's headstone may have been misread as he married an "Ann S" not an Agnes. Scotland's People also show the death as Ann McNay in 1979.
Thought it might be of interest.
Many thanks again

Agnes and Ann are interchangeable, see:
http://www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=agnes
I expect she was 'officially' Ann, but known as Agnes.

Checked the photograph available from LFHS and the name is Anne S. McNay
Looks like a transcription error
