Oletta, Just before one gets to the lovely village of Netherton, there is a housing estate,
there is a cemetery right at the back of the estate.
it's long while since I was there, so cant remember anything much about it,
only that I did not unearth any of my Ancestors.

Just to help you locate the cemetery: Heading west from the Red Lion roundabout, turn left at the road on the left just before the Ridge Farm pub. Follow the road as it bends round to the right, and the cemetery is on your left after the school entrance. There are some burials in the churchyard of St Cuthberts too.

There's an excellent list accessed via genuki which lists the registration districts in Northumberland, shows when they were abolished/created and if you click on any of them, tells you which places were included and when

Dear All
Thank you very much for all the replies. But can anyone inform me if there is a graveyard at the Roman Catholic church of St Bedes in Bedlington?
Regards

Oletta,
I may have mentioned in the past that I personally find burials more difficult than finding
birth/baptisms and marriages. Not an exact science !
Bedlington ( the wider "ancient" parish of Bedlington, including it's six "townships") folk
were buried in St Cuthbert's parish graveyard in Front St, Bedlington from mid 1600s.
As population grew chapels "of ease" were built as satellites of the mother church.
e.g St Paul's, Choppington, St Peter's, Cambois, St Peter's, Sleekburn. But only Choppington and Cambois had their own graveyard.
Because church graveyards became full, civil cemeteries were created c1860s.
The civil cemetery for Bedlington parish area started in 1867, Netherton Lane.
Bedlington Catholics got their own church, St Bede's, in 1876. It did not have it's own
church graveyard.
Before 1876 Bedlington RCs journeyed to Morpeth or Cowpen for church services, etc.
Most chose St Cuthbert's at Cowpen as a shorter journey. St Cuthbert's, unusual for a
small area, had it's own cemetery. So Bedlington RC burials could have been at in Cowpen St Cuthbert's RC cemetery, Bedlington C of E church graveyards, and from 1867, Bedlington Civil cemetery.
I think St Cuthbert's stopped accepting burials from c1946 (my granddad is there, but my gran
d.1955 is in Cowpen's civil cemetery & crematorium)
Death/burial records for all the above are accessible at Woodhorn records office.

Hello Michael
Great to hear from you! Thank you for all the information on the grave yards. I think at some point I will have to visit woodhorn record office to have a look at the records for burials/records, rather than trying to guess where they maybe buried!!!
Thank you very much for your help

Dear All
Would anyone be going to woodhorn soon and if so would be very grateful if they could look up a burial for a Marian Murray who died on the 26 of February 1943, aged 15 years. She is the daughter of Thomas and Marion Murray. Her obituary was placed in the evening chronicle on the 2nd March 1943 and states that Marian is interment in Bedlington.
Would be very grateful for this look up, please

Hi Oletta
I found Marion in Bedlington civil cemetery records but I’ve never come across burial records with so little information.
It simply says “Register number 3214, Buried 2nd March 1943, Marion Murray, burial reference F1543.B.S” There was no age, no abode or any of the usual items.
I checked the indexes to see if there were any MIs for the cemetery but they only go up to 1857.

Oletta,
Now that "Never-Fails" C-Side has tracked down Marion's burial, be aware that Stephen Kelly
(tel. 01670- 352107) of Northumberland County Council, oversees a group of cems, including
Bedlington. If he can pinpoint the site of Marion's grave, I can easily look to see what her gravestone, if any, says.

Hello Christine and michael
First I would like to thank Christine very much indeed for going to Woodhorn to have a look for the burial place of Marian Murray, I too have found this very strange that there is very little information, unless they had very little money. And secondly I would like to thank Michael for the information given, I will contact Stephen and let you know what information I can gather up from him.
Thank you both very much for all your help
Regards

"Never-Fails", Michael? - I wish.......
Oletta,
The Bedlington burial book looked to be quite small (as it appeared on the microfilm) with only 4 columns. Not like others I've seen which are very wide and have multiple columns of data.
Hope Michael's lead comes up with more

My Gt. Grandmother, Mrs Mary Stewart nee White was buried (interred) at Bedlington Cemetery,(sometime after 1917) prior to her death she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Riddle of 26 Victoria Terrace.
I live in Perth Western Australia so difficult to visit but if these details mean anything, I would appreciate a reply.
PS: I hope this is correct to be on this page
