I am wondering if anyone has looked at Brian J. Cantwell’s Memorials of the Dead.
I am curious to know if he has any Atkin family grave inscriptions listed ... ?
I am desecended from Gore Atkin, died 1786, Wexford.

Were you looking for a particular Atkin grave?
Any idea how Gore Atkin got his first name? Was there a connection between the GORE family and the ATKIN family that you know of?
(I am researching Gore's from Co.Wexford).

Hello Katherine
It would be great to find my Gore Atkin's grave, he is my x5 great grandfather .
I don't know how or why the name came into the family, the first that it is seen is with my Gore Atkin. His birth date is unknown, but he died 1786. His parents were Walter Atkin (1698 - 1753) and Mary Wady (1705 - 1789), they married 1733.
Gore also had a sister named Jane Gore Atkin (born 1740), and she named a son Gore Atkin Warren. So something, around this time and earlier, caused the family to use the name. I have wondered about it ....
If you google "Gore Atkin", you can find quite a few hits ...
Have a look at this website for a very good history on the
Atkin family (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=judkirkland&lang=en&ti=&surname=&stype=Exact&given=gore&bplace=&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search) (RootsWeb)

Hi, if you go to this page in the website I sent you, Samuel Atkin (Gore Atkin's grandfather) is in two documents that also reference Annesley Gore of Cottenstown in the county of Sligo Esq
here's where to go:

Hummmm ... The Gore Atkin that died 1823 is a puzzle, as I don't see him on the family tree in the link I shared. Wondering, now, where he fits in ?

Walter, son of Gore - also had a son named Gore. He passed in Ontario - not sure if that is the one you are seeing.

Hi
Walter who died in Ontario was the brother of my 4th great grandmother, Mary Atkin. The Gore listed furthur back in this thread, who died 1823, I don't currently have record of how he fits into our tree. Our line has Gore Atkin who died 1786 in county Wexford.
Have you seen the pictures of Gore Atkin and his brother Samuel both of Ontario here?: https://www.ancientfaces.com/photo/mr-mrs-gore-atkin/358588
Are you related?

Walter was my 4th Great Grandfather. Here is a blurb on Gore - from a book on Essex County. I have a fair amount of information gathered on the history back - and happy to share.
