According to the 1901-1911 census, my g.grandfather Sidney Frank Randall, b. Salisbury 1861, married Elizabeth Harriet Barkus, b Paddington, 1864, in c1884. But I find absolutely no references to this, nor can anyone else researching this branch of the family tree. This has been a stalemate for at least 5 years.
Can anyone tell me if some sections of BMD are missing altogether?

Hi
Please confirm how you know "Barkus" ?

Thanks for reply. She was my g.grandmother, I didn't know her but my father did. Also from census from 1871 onwards and birth records etc.
If the marriage record does not exist then of course the conclusion is obvious!

Hi
(I am aware of your previous posts where you say your tree is "unproven")
I mean from my post that . . . . . . your documentary proof, what is it?
You say " . . . . . records, etc.", what are they?
Please don't expect that "we" should duplicate research for which you already have documentation?
We are willing to help, but not ask US ALL to duplicate what you already have.

Hello rosebakertree.
To answer your question the Free BMD website is not 100% complete. But as far as I know there are not missing sections. You are interested in Marriages about 1884 so that period should be well indexed but possibly not 100% complete. I have looked at the Free BMD coverage and it seems that for 1884 the coverage for marriages is 100%: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/progressM.shtml#y1870
It would help fellow posters if you could post more information about the family you are researching. Just post all the information you have about the family and exactly what you want to know. It will be a big help to your fellow researchers. The more information you post the more chance you will have of getting a result.
p.s. is your name Rose?
Good Luck, David.

It is my understanding that freeBMD is as complete as possible certainly up to 1910 if not later. At the moment transcribing is taking place for the 1950s and the idea is to be complete as soon as possible. Gaps do exist, particularly in the earlier records, where handwriting or typing is indistinct and/or unreadable but the record is being continually updated using clearer source material.

Hi
Errors aside, FreeBMD's own words . . . . .
"note that the percentage completions are based on estimates and, in particular, a value of 100% does not guarantee that all entries have been transcribed."

Hi,
If I have the right family Elizabeth is with her parents in Salisbury in 1881
RG11 2068 53 14.
Is there any possibility she could have married and been widowed so a marriage to Sidney would not be registered under Barkus?

In 1891 they are in St Pancras RG12 132 7 8 and there is a brother in law called Arthur Barkins with them. I have checked the image and it does look like Barkins so it may be worth checking on that as a variant.

(This is for the pile of notes, in case useful.)

Elizabeth Harriet BARKUS
Yes, I saw that but it is not unknown for name variations at other stages in life.

Apologies Ray, Sillgill, Toastbutler etc., for not giving enough information in my requests. I have done the research, starting with family memories and have not only photos of Sidney Frank Randall and Elizabeth Harriet Barkus, but copies of their burial cards. So going back through census information online was relatively easy - except that their marriage record was missing, despite the entry in the 1911 census of being married 27 years. Hence my request for comments on the accuracy/completion of the BMD index.
My name is not Rose, that part of my tree (RoseBaker) was an attempt to discover whether a distant relative was involved in a non-fatal naval shipwreck in the West Indies in about 1860. That research came to a standstill when I discovered that there were probably 3 possible fathers with the same name, all born within a couple of years of each other, in the same village (South Petherton).
My experience with Rootschat has so far been absolutely invaluable and I thank all those who offer their services so generously to all. I'm hoping to return the favour quite soon, for a limited timespan (1770-1820) and limited area (Salisbury and immediate area).
