Best bet is to buy their marriage certificate!

That will have the names, and occupations, of both fathers.

The marriage can be found at:
June qtr 1940
Cheadle district    vol 6b, page 1059

Walker, Arthur H
Smith, Winifred M

You can order the certificate from the General Register Office (GRO):

Did your grandfather have any brothers? sisters?

Do you know their names?

BUT as KGarrard said to be sure you are following the correct family you really do need that marriage certificate.

Looking on FreeBMD there is a birth for an Arthur Walker (no middle name of Horace) in Cheadle in 1917 and the birth of two others,
George 1920 and Charlie 1915. These possibly children of George T Walker and Annie E Edge married Cheadle 1914.

BUT all this is only based on the marriage place of Cheadle for Arthur Horace so can be a complete red herring.

Back to needing the marriage certificate :)

Hi
There are a couple of trees on Ancestry ,did Arthur, Winifred and family  go to Australia?
There is a possible entry for them in the passenger lists 1952 which gives address Newcastle under Lyne.
Some trees on Ancestry.co.uk are not always correct of course, and should nt be taken so without proper proof , but there is a birth Sep 1917 Ashbourne for an Arthur R (on actual image looks like H) Walker  mmn. Finney which may tie in with the trees.
As Crisane suggests , if you know any of Arthurs siblings ,you could check on www.freebmd.org.uk to see if they share a mothers maiden name.
Best wishes
Cathy

Hi

Thank everyone. Yes they did come to Australia in 1952. They would have had 3 children by that stage.

Hi there i have managed to find out who my grandmother Winifred mary Smith's parents were:

William Henry Smith born around 1890 in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Agnes Mary Tildesley  born around 1892 in Uttoxeter.

My grandfather Arthur Horace Walker was definitely born in Staffordshire. haven't found his parents yet.

Probably will need William's father's name (from William and Agnes' marriage cert) to narrow down the potential candidates for William from the censuses.

Hmmmmmm, I may be changing my mind about which Alexander F Walker Elizabeth married - I can't post the 1911 census details on here, but have a look at the image of Elizabeth Finney bn c. 1881 in Ellastone, living in Wooton and Ramshorn, Derbyshire.
