Hello.
I have just found out that the Norfolk Family History Society has a family tree for Macrow in Tottington / Hockham.
I have traced my Macro line in Suffolk back to 1580 in Risby and am trying to go further.
Would anyone know if this Macrow family tree pre-dates 1580?
Thanks.

Hi
Not sure how helpful this is...
There are still some Macro/Macroe/Macrow/Macrowe/Makroe's evident in Suffolk earlier than 1580; some only 10-15 miles SE of Risby:
Examples:
Source, IGI (Extracted record).
28 Aug 1575 Thomas, s. of Thomas Makroe, Great Welnetham, bap.
24 June 1576 Thomas, s. of Thome Macrow & Helline, Glemsford, bap.
IGI (submitted record):
Birth abt. 1550 Thomas Macrowe, Glemsford, no parents given. On the record also is a burial date: 13 Feb 1621 Glemsford. A popular BI has exactly the same info for a death at Glemsford, St. Mary.
A popular Burial Index:
24 Nov 1550 Agnes Macrow, Shimpling St. George, bur.
12 Jun 1552 John Macrow, Shimpling St. George, bur.
There are at least 5 other burials in the Great Welnetham, Lawshall and Shimpling areas prior to 1580, 3 of which are Macro.
Regards
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for looking up the IGI. I already knew about them and discounted them because of some info I hadn't mentioned:
We have traced the Macro family line back to Arthur Macrowe:
The five children of William Macrowe and Anne Chinnerye.
Adam Bapt 03 Sept 1582 Risby
Anne " 21 Feb 1583 Risby
William " Abt 1586 Risby
Arthur " 12 Mar 1590 Risby
Margaret " 21 Apr 1594 Risby
1. "Risby" by A F Webling page 143 describes the salvaging of registers in 1563 by three men
including Adam Macrowe churchwarden.
2. Suffolk Green Book No. X "Suffolk in 1524, a Subsidy Return" reports
Lawrans Makerow page 343, and
Lawrence Makerolle page 432.
William's first born son is named Adam, so it is possible that William's father was the Adam mentioned as churchwarden.
I also know that there were earlier Macro's in Soham, Cambridgeshire and in Norfolk so are am trying to see if there are any links.
