Title: Prefabs in Beverley
Post by: Stangat on Monday 04 June 12 18:32 BST (UK)
Hi

I've just been chatting to my Mum and we got onto the subject of the post war prefabs. Her Grandma lived in one at 58 Watts Road, Beverley.  I hadn't been round there in the 40 years since she died until earlier this year. They are all modernish flats now but I'm sure the prefabs were grey and a bit depressing. Then again I was only seven!
I don't suppose anyone has a photo from the Watts Road area showing the prefabs?

I looked on the Treasure House catalogue but there doesn't appear to be any there :'(

Cheers

Ian

Don't know about prefabs in Beverley but the ones around Manchester were certainly not grey and depressing.  Two of my aunts and uncles and their children lived in them and they had lots of room, gardens and good neighbours.  They were not happy when the council eventually moved them to a tower block.

The local newspaper may be a good source of pictures also, the Local record office should be able to help.

Book stores usually have books of local, historic interest.

Assuming you can get to them of course.

Regards... Andrew.

Hi

I remember some of the prefabs in Beverley were green. I asked in the pub last night and a couple of people remembered some of the Beverley ones were a shade of blue (almost grey)

Thanks to you all for the replies. Lost the internet for a couple of weeks, AGAIN :-X :-X :-X

Hopefully sorted now but not convinced.

I think they must have been the light blue variety.

Cheers

Ian

PS Steve, did you ever see my reply regards a newspaper listing a WW1 soldier who may have been one of yours? I'll look it up again.
