Title: GRANVILLE of Bristol
Post by: pilandray on Saturday 02 June 12 19:34 BST (UK)
Is anyone researching a  George Granville  from Bedminster Bristol. He was, at the age of 12 in Park Row Industrial School. I have him marrying  a lady called Emma who was from Shute, Devon. So far I have been unable to find a birth or marriage cert. It is possibe they were married in Newport Wales as their first two children were born there.  If anyone else has an  interest in this family please get in touch.
Thank you.

You haven't given a single indication of date(s) or era.
perhaps we could help with BMD searches if you gave that information.

You are right Pauline ! In my haste to get it all down I forgot.

George Granville born 1858. 1871 census shows him in Park Row School.
He married in 1877 - to Emma. She was born 1857 in Shute Devon.

They had 5 children
Charles 1888
Ethel Ellen 1891
Emma Jane 1893
George Albert 1897
Florence 1901

Thank you

You said originally that you couldn't find the marriage of George and Emma, then you stated they were married in 1877: how do you know?

So, does the bible give any indication of the place of the marriage, or a more specific date? Either would help to narrow the search.

George's birth is presumably: George Glanville Q1 1858 Bedminster - if he was born in December 1857 it could have been registered in January 1858.

I was going to suggest the same marriage as Isobel. I think a Granville/Glanville confusion is highly likely.

I've been looking in 1861 and 1871 for an Emma of about the right age, born in Shute. There are not many, and no sign of Emma Smith Brewer. There's an Emma Trivett, born about 1860.

That is great news. Thank you so much to all who have responded to my plea for help. Glanville is for sure the name as the children all correspond in the census.
Once again, many thanks for your time & effort.

Best regards

I would be inclined to get the birth certificate for one of the children, to check on Emma's maiden name, then you can sort out the marriage.
