I am looking for WHEATON males of Devon. Depending on your lineage I will make available FREE Y-DNA test kits of 12-37 markers a value of $99-$169 US.
We have at least 3 Wheaton/Wheadon lines in Devon and a perfect match with a Hancock of South Molton. Looking for other possible matches to the early Wheatons of Devon. We are looking for parentage of a Robert Wheaton born about 1605-1610 who immigrated to the colonies about 1636. Earliest Wheaton of record is in 1298.
Robert Wheaton may have had some relationship with Non-conformists. Or with Governor John Endicott who was the son of Thomas Endicott of Chagford, Devon. John was married in Chard and was part of the Dorchester Company who immigrated to Salem, Massachusetts.
Also interested in communicating with anyone with Wheaton ancestry particularly those of North Devon. Particular Parishes of interest:
South Molton,
Ifracombe
Tiverton
Ashreigney
Winkleigh
Lapford
Sandford
Okehampton
Crediton
It is not clear whether all Exeter Wheatons are of the Sidmouth line. Only way to sort them out is through DNA testing.
If you are a HANCOCK from North Devon please contact me.

Hi Kelly, There were members of the Wheaton and Hancocks families living in the village of Dolton in the 1940s, here is the name of one J.Wheaton on the bell dated 1921.

It might be worth contacting the North Devon Journal & making an appeal through its pages for descedants who are still in the area (North Devon people don't travel much!)

A bit of an update. We have established 4, probably 5 WHEATON / WHEADON lines in Devon and Somerset.
The WHEADON line is DNA related to the DEANs of Chard and Crewkerne areas of Somerset and Axminster of Devon.
There is a WHEATON line from Exeter. This may be the oldest reaching back to 1298.
There is a WHEATON line from Coldridge and surrounding parishes of Devon which goes back to the 1500's
There is a WHEATON line from Brixham, Devon. which were mariners.
There is a WHEATON line from the Sidmouth area.
And finally there is a Hancock from South Molton who matches with a large group of American Wheatons whose progenitor immigrated in the 1600's.
More information on progenitors here

And DNA testing here.

I am happy to help where I can. This link to Wheatons in Devon may be helpful to you.
http://www.wheatonjk.co.uk/devon2.htm (http://www.wheatonjk.co.uk/devon2.htm)
If you know of a living male Wheaton in your family we can help establish which Wheaton line you connect to. The test prices have been lowered to $39 for a 12 marker test. Eventually if Ancestry.com opens up their autosomal test to the UK market it may also prove helpful for you in connecting not only with your Wheaton line but all of your lines.
There's tons of information on the earliest Wheatons on my website.

You are likely related to the earliest Wheaton who was Mayor of Exeter for many years.

There is a photograph of John Wheaton (bellringer) taken at St Giles in the Wood North Devon on 1st February 1906 here; http://www.flickr.com/photos/rogerdunn/sets/72157604113501513/
Here also is a (restored) copy of the oldest certificate from the Dolton Belltower.

That is absolutely beautiful. I will eventually post on my blog with attribution with your permission. Gorgeous piece of history.
I believe that is the best part of genealogy and Gentic genealogy....to bring the past back to life and a growing admiration of those forebears who make our lives possible.
With the different groups of WHEATONs represented above we have the following early groups represented
7,500 years ago the Ancient Celts who peopled Devon
2,500 years ago the Alpine Celts who moved from the mountains of Northern Italy to the Plains of Salisbury and then West.
More recently then incursions by the Saxons and Vikings
All represented by different WHEATON groups in DEVON.

I noticed you mentioned John Endecott was married in Chard. Do you have anymore information on this marriage? This is the first mention of Gov. Endecott in Chard that I've heard of. He's missing from records from his birth until he's in his 20's. Thanks for any info you might have! :)

Does this mean just just because our English ancestors left England for America you won't respond to Americans trying to research their ancestors because they're "Crazy Americans"? It's a shame to be judged this way without any insight as to why. It be a shame if that one "Crazy American" was the yDNA tester who could solve a family mystery? I'm thankful for our distance cousins from England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have collaborated and participated in DNA testing to help solve our brick wall without ignoring us as "Crazy Americans".
