I am seeking information about my gggrandparents, William Leech and Mary Ann McIvor, Co. Derry. They had at least three children, Briget Jane (b. 1859), my ggrandfather, Abraham (b. 1861) and Catherine (b. 1863), baptised in Ballykelly. By 1900, Catherine was married to Peter McVeigh and living in Belfast. Peter was a produce merchant at 4 Mays Market. In the 1901 Census, the family was living in Bagot Street, Cromac. By the 1911 Census, they have three children, Mary Josephine (11 years), Michael (10 years) and Peter A. (6 years), and are living at Ormeau Road, Cromac. Catherine’s sister, Bridget Jane Leitch, was also living in the household. Later Catherine and her husband were living at 5 Fleetwood Street, Belfast. Catherine died in 1942, leaving her possessions to a Margaret Burke.

Hi K3 I was browsing groni online site through the wills calendars there are some wills there for leech in Dunbrock Ballykelly which may be of interest to you. They are free to consult, perhaps you have seen them before I just thought I would let you know. They are under various spellings of the leech leach leitch name
All the best Raymond Logue

good source Raymond, i triedthe following tack
Using the list below look up the civil parish in http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/derry-genealogy.php#.Wz0ohS2ZNEI
and you should get more information eg townland if missing
Ballykelly is in Tamlaght Finlagan
My purpose was to isolate the Leech and McIvor to the same civil parish for a likely place the couple met, but that hasn’t worked. if you went to surrounding civil parishes some clue might be available, but I don’t have the time to do the geography . if you end up brickwalled then consider it as a wild possibility

It always helps I have found to keep an open mind as regards the spelling of surnames I'm sure you have encountered this yourself as mcivor is also the same as mckeever even within the same family sometimes. Faughanvale parish still exists unlike Tamlaght-Finlagan but they share a boundary I have come across the name mckeever in both and families of this name still live there. It's always very shakey ground with these early nineteenth century records as they only record the head of household and not much else. I am now considering records such as school registers workhouse records and even petty sessions but this will require a visit to Belfast titanic quarter where proni is now situated.

Thank you Ray and BallyaltikilliganG for all of your time and effort in trying to build my Leech/Leach/Leitch family tree. I am sorry I have not replied before now as I have been very busy at work.
I appreciate your list of potential Leech relatives and when I have the opportunity, I will check their names against my records. While the Christian names would seem to strongly indicate they are likely to be relatives, I am still unable to make any definite connections.
Since my original post, I have traced Mary Ann McIvor's family to Drumsurn, Drumgavenny, although I am still searching for any evidence of her baptism. Likewise, I have no marriage record for Mary Ann and William Leech.
As for William and Mary Ann Leech's children, I managed to contact a descendant of their daughter Catherine McVeigh, but he was unable to provide any information about the Leech family in Ireland that I did not already know.
