Title: Hirst family - Huddersfield.
Post by: Fozgraven on Friday 25 May 12 20:07 BST (UK)
Good evening all.

Would somebody be so kind as to assist with this one?

I'm looking for confirmed ancestors of my Grandfather.

He was Jack Wellington Hirst, Born March 1915 in Huddersfield.

I have been told that his Father was John William Hirst, Born 1878 in Huddersfield.
And that Jack had a brother called Cyril, who was tragically knocked down and killed in 1967.

Can anybody please help with the ancestral line of this family?
And if possible, supply the names of my Grandfather's (Jack's) siblings?

Thank you.

Welcome
Have you looked on www.freebmd.org.uk to see if you can find his birth?   Buying that certificate would be a good start to your search.  There is a possible birth for a Cyril too.

Marriages March qtr 1912 Lettie Earle married John W Hirst Huddersfield 9A 405

If you use freebmd to search for Hirst births in Huddersfield with mothers maiden name Earle  you will find a number of siblings - including Cyril

Thanks to you both for the help.

The information i have is:

Jack Wellington Hirst, Son of John William Hirst & Lettie Hirst (Earle). B:1915.

John William Hirst (B:1878) was a widower, previously married to Catherine Birmingham.

After Catherine's death, He remarried Lettie Earle of Hawk Street, Huddersfield.
John William was resident at "Lee & Burleys yard" which was a run-down area of Thomas Street under the parish of St Marks Church (Behind the sports centre)

They were resident at 33 Northumberland Street, Huddersfield, in 1915.

The whole area has since gone into history with nothing but the church standing.

What is confusing me is,...Lettie remarried in 1940, to a man called Tommy Foley.

....What happened to John William Hirst?

The Hirst/Birmingham marriage was in 1898

If Lettie re-married in 1940 - was she shown as a widow or divorcee on the marriage cert?

She died in 1983 and is shown as born 26.8.1892 so was probably too old to have had any children by Foley.
