Title: Wedding date
Post by: mjsmart90 on Thursday 24 May 12 19:33 BST (UK)

This is a photo of my great great grandfather John Mcleod's wedding. What I am trying to determine is which one, as he married twice.

The first wedding took place in 1874 to Margaret Herd, and I think it was in Markinch.

The second wedding took place in 1886 to Catherine Allan in Edinburgh.

What do people think? 1870s or 1880s? Is it even possible to tell?

Thanks

Neither of those dates I'm afraid. This is 1905-10.

Really? How so? I was 100% sure that the groom is my great great grandfather but if it is between those dates then it must be someone else.

Narrow sleeves, narrow silhouette all round, the whole style of the dress and those lovely hats.
I agree with Jim on the date.
What a cracking good photo. Lovely fashions.

Definitely in Jim's date range....the fashions are definitive and very different from either 1870s or 80s.

Cheers,
