hope any one can help
i think ive traced a Robert Armstrong b 1819 to Rowfoot a hamlet of Haltwhistle
his wife was called Mary
he has at least one son george b 1847 in Fell End slaggyford possibly as
george was born there just a few miles down the road !!
if this is the correct Robert he may have remarried around 1861-1871 to Ann and lived in mickley square
if anyone can help to confirm this and help me move on to Roberts parents id appreciate it

now is the problem i cannot get any records to
Robert at or prior to birth
i got the Rowfoot birthplace by chance a Robt Armstrong was living in mickley sq
with i suspect George his soon and family around 1871 census , george was married in Lanchester
in 1871

1871 census -which you posted a link to Gives Robert, Ann and 4 yr old daughter Jane (no George with them)
1881 Robert age 63 has p.o.b. Haltwhistle - is with wife Ann 42 b. Haltwhistle and children Jane,14, Robert 9, Elizabeth 6
why have you dismissed the baptism record from familysearch??

Census of 1871 was taken as at 2nd April.
Census Enumerators were not asked specifically to record place of birth. The census page column was headed " Where Born"
Enumerators chose whether to record " Parish of Birth" or " place of birth"

I posted a christening for a Robert with parents John and Jane - I thought it may be a possibility for the Robert you were enquiring about

In 1871 census Robert gives his place of birth as Rowfoot, which is in Featherstone township.
A baptism at Haltwhistle. 27 August 1820. Robert, son of William and Dorothy Armstrong of Rowfoot. Fathers occupation - Labourer.
Other children baptized to the same parents, all of Rowfoot.
William, 20 Feb 1819. (Buried Haltwhistle, 28 Feb 1819, aged 8 days).
William, 19 Mar 1826. (born 15 Nov 1822).
Margaret, 19 Mar 1826.
George, 15 Jun 1828.
Jane, 28 Mar 1830.

The Robert aged 9 looks to be their grandson.
A baptism at Haltwhistle, 21 Jan 1831. Robert Armstrong, son of Mary Armstrong, Spinster, of Rowfoot.
The Robert aged 20 at Kellah in 1841, aged 20, found by Suz, is probably the right one. Three pages away from Rowfoot, with older sister Mary and her younger children, and younger brother William. William and Dorothy Armstrong at Maidenway are one page away.

My Robert was born 1822 in haltwhistle not 1819 so have discounted all ref to row foot it was a red herring see 1851 census at spittle age 29
More probable your baptism rec for 1822 haltwhistle is right
The 1861 record shows Roberts dob as 1820 ugh confusing and pob as featherstone do
I'll keep digging

a baptism date is not a birth date
Often children were baptised a few weeks after they were born
sometimes on the parish records the birthdate will be recorded -but not always
Sometimes more than one child was baptised at the same time or families were baptised together.
So you can't take the baptism year as y.o.b.
There is a baptism to "fit" Robert being baptised 1820

im really strugling to find any mention of where william b1791 appox Scotland was born
ive checked on familysearch but its Scottish records are lacking detail
I have found 8 William Armstrongs born between 1789-1791, there may be more !!!!

i cant see if any brothers or sisters followed him down from scotland , he must have been quite young the first record i have seen is of his son williamb 1819 which lists father as farm labourer
any help appreciated
