Is there any other way of finding the cause of death other than a death certificate?

Newspaper article perhaps- especially if an inquest was reported in the paper.
Some cemetery records occasionally give cause of death.
Relative or friend of deceased.

Thanks for that. The deaths were almost 100 years ago so no relatives. But the others are a possibility.

Of course if it's a Scottish death, you can view details of the death on line, which include place and cause of death, also parents of deceased even when they are adults who have died, so very useful info.
Otherwise, you'll probably have to buy a death cert.

Another thing I didn't know. It irks me that we have to pay to find out about our own family. The Scots have it right.
