Hi Crisane

Yes I think it is Arthur death
I found that to and was also looking at the voters list for both Louisa and Arthur
I found Louisa on her own on voters list,
1914, Yarra, Collingwood so went and had a look for Arthur on voters list and a possible death
found who I thought might be Arthur living in Geelong with a Anne on the 1914, Corio, Barwon voters list
did a bit more snooping and found they had a few other children
still unsure if I was on the right track found a couple of trees
and looks like it is correct
Arthur has left Louise and had been living with a Anne Ault
he has married her 9th July 1923

During the process of registering a birth you are required to furnish the date and place of the marriage of the parents.
Arthur FEARN declared he married Annie AULT in 1883 in England...he was lying.  He couldn't even get the year of his marriage right.  If you don't give the place and date of marriage then the birth would be registered under both parents' names which would indicate illegitimacy.

ok still a bit confused here  ???

did he marry Annie AULT 1883 in England or was it a different year or he didn't marry her at all ??? until the marriage in Geelong 9th July 1923

Also on the marriage certificate Geelong 9th July 1923

for Annie Ault it states she was a widower " actual date unknown approx 30 years in England "

Information on death certificates is not reliable.  In this case the informant was an undertakers assistant.

The column headings need to be read to correctly interpret the information.

In this case the info is ........Married [at] 68 years [to] Annie Ault [Living]

Perhaps Annie was not present to give any information.  There were definitely two living children, possibly three with Louisa.

Cheers

And Annie Fearn's death cert is on same tree.

She died 25 Aug 1935 in geelong hospital age 76.  Born Derby  England, about 36 years in Vic and 14 years in NSW.

Ist marriage to Edgar Gregory (deceased), England, age not known, issue James 52
2nd marriage Geelong to Athur Fearn (deceased) at age 65 years, issue none.

OK I get it - if they give correct age for the marriage then they can't say there were any issue.  Anyway the issue came BEFORE the marriage.  ;D

You apply online and they mail it to you.

I wonder if Edgar James Gregory was still alive or even here in Australia or whether she just used her husband's name to legitimise the baby ...?  Can you find any trace of him here?

An Edgar James Gregory gets a mention in July 1887 Victorian Government Gazette.

Page 1985.

In short, the partnership between John Thomas Bennett, John Cuthbert and Edgar James Gregory was dissolved on 25th June 1887.
The business, "Phoenix Manufacturing Coy" was located in Cromwell St Collingwood.

Looks like John Thomas Bennett retired and John Cuthbert & Edgar James Gregory continued on with the partnership.

On 24th October 1892 an Edgar Gregory 30 was charged on warrant for deserting his four children, supposed to be in Melbourne.  The warrant was at the instance of George Hollingsworth, carpenter, Smith St Northcote.

From the Victorian Police Gazette, I can give a bit more description information more details if required.

Hi

I am related to these people but i don't know if i have any better idea of what they were doing than you do :)

Arthur Fearn was my 2nd great grand uncle.

But I would say that almost certainly they were lying.

It would appear to me that both Annie Ault and Arthur Fearn left their original partners and children (for whatever reasons) and set up together - lived together as man and wife - had more children and finally married once both of the original partners were dead.

They appear to have had a terrible time with children dying so no wonder the relationships did not survive.

I think the issue seems to have become a little more confused by articles from the Derby Mercury that may not apply to that particular Arthur Fearn.

I will try to take a proper look at it and sort it out if I can

seeking any information on Arthur and Louisa Fearn who married in England 1882 and emigrated to Australia in 1884 (possibly Melbourne?) along with children from Louisa's previous marriage to Frederick Redfern (butcher) of Tutbury Staffordshire England.Frederick died 1881.

FEARN Louisa  400 Smith Street, Collingwood   Home duties

1919
FEARN Louisa 282 Waterdale Road, Heidelberg  Home duties

Louisa died in 1922 in the Melbourne East registration district. Often registrations at Melbourne East are for deaths at the Melbourne Hospital.    I have searched the online databases for Fawkner, Springvale, Kew and St Kilda. She is not buried at Footscray or Melbourne General.  There is a cemetery at Heidelberg and if she is buried there, there is no headstone.  My great aunt is buried at Heidelberg and the cemetery trust holds the burial registers but has not responded to my numerous requests for a grave location.

Louisa's death certificate would give you information including her place of death, her usual residence, cause of death and place of burial.

You can purchase an image of her death cert online [$17.50] and immediately download.
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage

You need her surname, year of death and registration number...and your credit card :)

I can't find burials at the any of the online databases of the larger cemeteries, however Preston cemetery's deceased search has been disabled for sometime and Preston is north of Northcote so they could be buried there.  I understand the management may be installing a new system of marking grave locations.

There are marriages for Frederick's children.  If you want them just ask.

I have just found this thread and got confused reading it. But I am looking for an Arthur Fearn, born 1882 in New Zealand, and disappears from NZ (unmarried) about 1913. I suspected he went to Australia. Is there any chance that anything on this thread is relevant to this?
