I am trying to locate the obituary for Anthony Smith who died on 7 January 1996. Newspapers from that year are not online. Anyway for me to locate it even though I don't live in Scotland?
-
There are only 5 Anthony's who died in 1996 you can see them on Scot's People. If you spot the one you are looking for you can order a copy of his death registration for £12.

Where in Scotland did he die? There are actually quite a lot of different newspapers in Scotland (four dailies for a start, plus umpteen local weeklies) so you need to know which area to look in.

There is an Anthony Smith interred in Airbles Cemetery in Motherwell, late December 1996 don't know if this is any help to you. 8)

He died in Glasgow at Knightswood Hospital. He lived on Fortrose Street.
-
I have his death certificate. I was hoping for an obituary to see if it mentions children.
-
I would imagine if he was buried it would be a Glasgow Cemetery. Try the Evening Times newspaper. :-\

Hi mkcoop
See you are still on the trail of death notices :)
As you are finding, both the Glasgow Herald and Evening Times have not yet been made available online for 1996. Would require someone to look this up for you at a local history library that had these papers archived.
Not sure however that you would necessarily get children's names from it, if there was a death notice to be found, as the Glasgow papers in the main simply state funeral arrangements and timings...but, as always with these searches, you never know until you look!
You mention you have the actual death cert. Assume a child of his was not the informant.

I have checked the Gale Group modern newspapers which have the Glasgow Herald and the Evening Times available for that period but the online search does not throw up anything from 1995 or 1996 for your man (it would seem that only the news sections are available).

What was his address at time of death?
It may just be in a local paper if he lived outside a large city
-
He lived on Fortrose Street in Glasgow.
-
Is his wife deceased?
What was her name?
When/where did they marry?
-
I am not sure if his wife is deceased or not. Her name was Julia McAlinden and they were married in 1955 in Glasgow.
-
Hi mkcoop
Likely death for his wife Julia in 1991 (not in Lanarkshire). Need to always make sure that people who are being discussed relating to names have been included on postings are deceased....

She died in West Dunbartonshire 1991
Who was the informant on Anthony's death record?
-
His sister, Catherine McManus. How do you know when Julia died?
-
Because I searched on SP with the maiden name and married name.

It's funny because when I do that (with the maiden name included) alot of times nothing shows up so I have to remove the second last name . So I searched but only had results for Julia Smith. But thank you for the help! I really appreciate it.

Daft I know, but make sure you are not putting the second surname into the mother's maiden surname box...
