Just to try & explain that there are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs. Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further. Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging. The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916. As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago. Nova Scotia Birth certificates of deceased persons born less than 100 years ago or married less than 75 years ago cannot be issued for genealogy. There are also restrictions on who can apply for a birth certificate. Death certificates can be released if the death occurred more than 20 years ago and the deceased would be 75 years of age or more.
So you can see from that how tight the privacy laws make it in trying to get information.
Anc tree says Margaret born 1880 ??? and died 1940 no other details ???

Hi Sandra: Researching in this country is the pits. USA has census up to 1940.. why can we?? I know how
madding it gets when we try to fill in the gaps for our ancestors..on our tree .. when the info is so restricted...
Thanks a bunch..Catch you later. Marie
