This property was, we understand, built in the 18th century and we thought, built by a member of the Hignett family. Does anybody know anything about this house please? i.e. when it was built. We know members of the Hignett family lived there in the late 1800s, but have been unable to find out anything else. I do have a photograph of it which was taken by Jackson Stops & Staff when it was up for sale in the late 1990s.
I have written to CRO who have no mention of it all, although it is Grade II listed. Maybe that doesn't come under CRO's jurisdiction?
Failing knocking on the door, does anyone know, or could anyone find out please, the name of the present occupier, so I may write to them. We live in Somerset and are coming up to Cheshire on 13/14 June, primarily to do some family history research.
Again, thanks in advance,
Sandra Hignett

Hi Sandra,
Have just seen this post, I don't know if your visit was successful, but have you seen this site: http://www.rhignett.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/genealogy/onston_hall.htm?
I have a connection to the Hignetts of Onston via the marriage of Alice Bankes to Samuel Hignett in 1810 at Runcorn (children, Samuel 1811 & William 1814). Alice Bankes's mother was also a Hignett, Elizabeth, who married William Bankes in 1787 at Thornton.
