Title: Church Road Sheriff Hill Gateshead
Post by: KJP on Friday 18 May 12 10:52 BST (UK)
Trying to find info/photo of old Houses that were located on Church Road Sheriff Hill, they were past St John's Church heading towards Low Fell and were located where the road turned the corner opposite Sheriff Hill Hall, there are some prefab houses there at present but the old houses are on the 1919 OS Map and also are still there on the 1939 OS Map, I have viewed the maps at Gateshead Library and my Great Grandparents Christopher and Mary Mangan lived at no 7 of the houses up until they passed away in 1930 and 1931.

Hi Stan/Ron,

I visit isee Gateshead quite a bit and the photos shown are not of the area where the houses were, they are further down the road from the church and around the corner so are not shown on the photos.
Ron not sure what you mean Inikey search?

I lived at no 40 Church Road, from 1952 to 1970, which was directly opposite the houses you mention. I clearly remember them being demolished and the pre-fabs being put up - in the late 1950s. The pre-fabs are numbered in the 30s so I'm not sure why one should have number 7. I will ask my mam, who is 95, as she may remember why they were replaced.
