Hi All, If possible could somebody check for Mayne Wm p.o.b, Mount Bally Water. on the Merchant Navy Seamens lists for 1835-1941. I am interested in this because my Great Grandfather William Mayne b 1858 Belfast CO5215 (Captains Number) marriage certificate has his fathers name as William Mayne and occupation mariner, he also came from Ballywalter, Ireland. The above seems quite similar although not quite correct, so fingers crossed there could possibly be a connection.
Thank You

He is entered in Alphabetical Register of Seamans Tickets. TNA piece BT114/14 Other than his name and place of birth the only information recorded is his Seamans Ticket number. 592810.
Copies of Seamans Tickets are held in BT113. Unfortunately this series only record ticket numbers up to 546000. I assume that William Mains Ticket has been destroyed along with a good many more.

Thank you for that, it's a shame nothing else is recorded, but hey the search must go on, I've been looking for him for about 5 years now, and this is the first connection I've found.
Thanks again.

The FindMyPast title Merchant Navy Seamen 1835-1941 is a little missleading, although they do qualify this in their explanation. They have records 1835-1857 and 1918 -1941.
The reason for this is, no central personal merchant seamans records were kept between 1857-1913 and the ones for the first world war have been destroyed.
Jennyrob's man served after 1855 so he would not have a ticket number. Could you post a copy of the crew agreements you have to see if there are any clues there?
Regarding Thomas Cockram 1833. FindMyPast has records after 1835 but many of these Seamans Tickets have been destroyed.

As no central personnel MN records were kept, effectively, between 1857 and 1918 the only way to find out more is by backtracking on crew agreements. As you have seen previous vesel is recorded in the crew agreement.
GLOXINIA official number 105217 built by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding ltd at Willington Quay completed in Jan 1897. 2540 tons, owned by Stag Line, North Shields.
1916 sold to Leopold Walford, London r/n PETINGUARDET, 1921 sold to M. Uravain, Spain r/n FRANCISCA URAVAIN, 1928 sold to Velilla y Candina, Spain r/n CANDINA, 1966 scrapped at Santander.
Her 1908 crew agreements are at Memorial University of Newfoundland

According to Family Search my ancestor Frederick Meredith, born Manchester 1825, is recorded in the Merchant Navy Seamens Records for his service 1845-1854.
I wondered if these records would give more details as the images are not on Family Search?

The images are available from Find my Past There are 4 sets there for Fredrick or F Meridith born Manchester 7/Oct/1825. I suspect they may be duplicated but theres only one way to find out.
I looked at the first one but at 20 credits a go, its up to you to look yourself for the rest.
The information contained was as follows
His Seamans Ticket number was 258572
He first went to sea as an Apprentice on 1/Oct/1844
Brown hair
blue eyes
light complexion
5ft ?inches
He appeared to have a crown and anchor tattoo and a distinguishing sign on his right hand?
He could read
Never been in the Royal Navy or Foreign service
Lived in Manchester when not employed
Registered ticket in Liverpool 3/June/1845
One of the other documents may be a copy his ticket. If it is you may need to post it for some kind of interpretation.
