There is a Gilchrist who emigrated to Canada, his occuaption was that of a joiner. Could this be him?

Name: Gilchrist Dewar
Birth: abt 1884
Departure: Glasgow, Scotland
Arrival: 6 May 1908 - Montreal, Quebec

Hi yes I came across him the birth date is only a year out (but I,m taking birth dates from census details and they are wrong at times as in his sister Jane born in 1878 not 1879 as the census said) and  Daniel's occupation was a joiner in 1901 . I can't find a birth cert for either a Gilchrist or Daniel in 1883 at the Scottish Persons web site .But Daniel shows up coming back to Scotland from Canada around 1923.Things seem to be coming together now.I'll just get my pipe and Sherlock some more.

Hi John, do you know if James emigrated to Canada? as there is a William Dewar age 34 sailing on the Metagama to visit his brother James in Canada in Oct 1923. It also states that his nearest relative from which the country he came is Mrs Clark, 373 Garbraid St, Glasgow. It gives William's occupation as fitter and his religion is Presbyterian.
There is a marriage between a Dewar and Clark in Glasgow between 1901 and 1923 but I cannot see if this is your relation as I have no credits left :(.

Hi Kinsey It sounds like my James he went to Canada in 1908 on the Hesperian, with another brother Gilchrist (Daniel),his other brother William was b 1889 so the age is right.I'll check out the Clark connection myself while my voucher lasts.
