Title: Unfathomable Place Name!
Post by: hazelmoore on Monday 14 May 12 22:32 BST (UK)
Can anyone please help with reading the place name on this Baptism entry?  Unfortunately there is no help on the transcription - just Mar 10th 1810 in Denbighs.  As we all know there are hundreds of Williams' around I really need to know I am in the right area!!!

Thanking you in advance

Hazel

One thing the place is not is a name of a Parish in Denbighshire. It is almost certainly to be a township of one of the Parishes.

Regards
William Russell Jones.

Hi

I had a peep at the whole page from the register  and the other places listed are all in the parish of Llandrillo yn rhos.

Trying to find your place on the map.

Ooh thank you!!  Llandrillo yn Rhos will do fine - that's where I knew he came from and I was put out by the other name!!  I think I can be reasonably sure that it's who I thought it was - I'm sure you understand!!!  Right parents, right Birth in the right place - looks like I've come up trumps!!!  (I hope!)

Thanks again for your extremely prompt replies!

It's Peny Geulan, Llandrillo-yn-Rhos

If you look at the later children (John bapt Sept 11th 1814) the place is a lot clearer....

Thank you for that, Lee.

Now please tell me how you found that image (John) as I have no idea how to search for other children...except by trial and error!! (I am using FindMyPast)  I found a David, son of William and Margaret, in 1808 but it gave a different place name.  Are you using Ancestry, which may be easier to search for parents' names?  It may answer a lot of questions if I can turn up some more brothers for Thomas!!!

Thank you again,

Hazel

Hazel

just look for all the Williams' in "Llandrillo yn Rhos" (spaces not dashes!) and then instead of viewing each image view the transcript which should give you the mother and father (it's quicker!). There might be a few more children (Stephen 1819) but the abode is Nant Erias - do you know if they moved here?

Lee,

Thank you - I was trying to do it by 'guessing' names!  A laborious and not very fruitful task!!  However the parents of David in 1808 are from Tybrithia, or some such name...is that close to Pen y Geulan or/and Nant Erias?  I have nothing at all on William and Margaret before 1841 when they are at Dolwyd Bach, Trebwll (where I visited descendants in 1956!!) so they could have been anywhere!!  Pity there are no earlier censuses!!
