Hi,
I think this is his birth, Walpole St Andrew would have registered in Wisbech RD,
Arthur CHAPMAN Dec Q 1909 Wisbech 3b 499
and his marriage,
Arthur CHAPMAN Sep Q 1931 Downham 4b 867
Florence M A C PANKS
and possibly his death,
Arthur CHAPMAN Dec Q 1981 King's Lynn 10 1404
DOB: 28 Aug 1909
but I also can't 1911 census entry that matches him if his father's name is James :(
Oh dear, there is a 1 year old Arthur living in the Wisbech RD but his father's name is also Arthur, maybe you could get the marriage cert. to see what details it gives for his father.
Regards,
Daisy

The marriage looks good ty,

Thank you for your help really appreciate any input to solve my dilema.

Births, marriages, deaths are registered in quarters Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec. You would think an August event would be registered in Sep but maybe it was a little late.
-
You have 42 days to register a birth so 28th August plus 42 = 9th October which would put it into the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter.

Thanks Dawn
That may explains things but still a little confused by the birth month, I am not used to the Engllish records yet only just started searching in England.
Appreciate all in put many thanks

Where did the birth month of August come from?
Any idea if brothers/sister were older or younger? If they were born before 1911 it would help with tracing on the census :)

and possibly his death,
Arthur CHAPMAN Dec Q 1981 King's Lynn 10 1404
DOB: 28 Aug 1909
Hi Milliepede
From Daisy's reply above He did die in 1981 that I have definate,
I dont know the ages of the brothers/sister sorry, I have tried on the census to find with the brothers/sister names regardless of ages but just cant see I am doubting that his father was named James so difficult when I dont have a very relient source for information.

I know Mabel took advantage of the free 1911 searches
Have just spoken with his daughter and only info is still that Arthur's father was called Jim so assumed name to be James but could Jim be a middle name, pet name, familiarity name, or could it be short for something other than James?
:P guess I need to keep digging.

Me again! Realise you're after Arthur but thought Florence's death might establish family still in the same area. My OH was born and brought up in Walpole Highway in the 1950s and he knew quite a few Chapmans... When I spoke to him about your query he said he could remember "Shinter" Chapman living in Walpole. This is probably something you might like to bear in mind - when I first met OH's family was confused because everyone seemed to have a nickname. ALL the men in OH's family were referred to as 'Bob'!!! Would suggest you established Arthur's father's name from his marriage certificate.

Hi Suffolkgal
Really appreciate your help.............. and yes it appears names are a little tricky............ as far as I know arthur's father was called "Jim" but I seriously doubt that was actually his name ie James as I couldnt find an arthur in 1911 census with father James around that area.
I have been told that "Jim" (arthurs father) was married 3 times and last that can be remembered is that he married a lady from Leverington that would have been late 50's/early 60's that is where he was until his death (no date)
Grandparents are turning out to be more trouble than kids lol
