Title: Suter
Post by: PaddyBear on Saturday 12 May 12 13:08 BST (UK)
Hi

I am looking for a marriage of Thomas Suter to Mary circa 1726 somewhere in Rutland, and have had no success.  Is anyone able to help please.

Thank you.

Hi PaddyBear

Can't help with a look-up I'm afraid and this is perthaps a bit obvious - but have you considered spelling variations?

I only say this because I have the name Soutar in my tree and the number of spelling variations make life very interesting!  One such variation is Suter - although not in the Rutland area.

Cheers ... Simon

Quite a few Sutor in Wing Rutland if that any help. Only marriage of a Thomas (Suitor) is in 1785 to a Alice Ward.   There is a marriage of Thomas Suter to a Mary (unk) in 1732 at Edwinstowe Notts and a Thomas Sowter/Mary Barber at Norwich Norfolk in 1746.

might give you a few leads ?

Hello My 3 x grandad was Albine Suter from Rutland.The only other information I have is that he moved to Leicester and died in Lutterworth. I also have Pettifers. They seem to come from Oxfordshire way but mine went to Warwickshire..

Hi Charlie.  Thanks for your post.  I haven't found a link with the large cluster of SUTERs in the Rutland area.  I suspect they are linked with those from Notts but have no evidence.  There is also an early cluster in the Sussex/Hampshire area - again no known links.

I am related to a large cluster in the Dorset/Wiltshire/Somerset areas - mainly from Mere, Stourton, Silton and Bourton.  A number left this area in the mid 1800s for Tredegar and Ebbw Vale in Wales.  There are also smaller clusters in Bristol and Nuneaton - all originating from Dorset.  The Dorset connection goes back to the mid 1500s.  There is (or was) a family in York but most from the city are from elsewhere - possibly your ancesters.

Hope that helps

Andrew Suter

Hi charlie.green,

From Census Albine Suter was born c 1845/1851 Uppingham
Married to a Lucy by 1871
(1871 he is down as Albert Suter)
He also marries as Albert Suter, Reg June 1870 Leicester to Lucy SPENCER

1851 this seems to be him and possible Siblings in Workhouse;
Charles Skeeter, 10, born Belton
Albine Skeeter, 6, born Uppingham
William Skeeter, 4, born Uppingham
Henry Skeeter, 1, born Uppingham

Christenings;
HENRY Suter, 2 March 1841, Belton, Rutland to CHARLES/SARAH
CHARLES Suter, 30 October 1842, Belton, Rutland to CHARLES/SARAH
HENRY Suter, 21 October 1849, Uppingham, Rutland, Mother SARAH Suter

1841 Census
HO107/897/1/Belton
Charles Suter, 30, Ag Lab
Sarah Suter, 25
Henry Suter, 1

Birth Regs;
Births Sep 1845
SUTER, Albine, Uppingham, 15 686

I think you need his Birth Cert to confirm his Parents/Parents names.

I feel that Charles died and Sarah had alt least 1 Illegitimate Child Henry 1849

Also a Henry SHUTER Death Reg Sept 1847 Uppingham may be Henry age 1 in 1841 Census

FreeBMD has this Marriage;
Charles SUTER, Dec 1837, Uppingham, 15 443
But there is no Sarah on the page, all others have reg district as Daventry.

Looking for a Marriage , Sarah (no surname0 Dec 1837 Uppingham we have;
Bentham, Sarah, Uppingham, 15 1167
Burrowes,   Sarah, Uppingham,  15 1155
DEACON, Sarah,    Uppingham, 15   1147
TURNER, Sarah, Uppingham, 15 1143

As I said earlier you need Albines Birth Cert.

Trish :)

Excellent :)

So his Parents were Charles and Sarah from Birth Cert?
May I ask which Sarah, Turner or Deacon?

We may be able to help then trace Charles and Sarah Families.
Also find what happened to Sarah ie if she remarried or died.

Trish :)
