Hi All,
I am trying to beg, steal or borrow a copy of a book by the name of "Pink Hats on Gentle Ladies". It was published in 1974 and compiled by Vida Clift. I have tried using interlibrary loan service through my local library (I live in East Gippsland in Victoria) and the only copy seems to be at the Sate Library in Melbourne (and unavailable for loan). It is about the Farrell / Smith and associated families from NSW.
Can anyone help???
Cheers,
Julie

Vida's work is an unpublished manuscript which contains 154 pages, not a book. This is the reason why you can't borrow it through ILL.
You can order a copy, complete or part of the manuscript for yourself via the SLV Direct Delivery Service.

Thank you for the link Merlin. I will take advantage of it and order a copy for myself.

Julie, I just found your request on Google, and thought I better reply. My mother, Vida Clift, was the author of 'Pink hats on Gentle ladies', and, as I am her youngest Son, I am currently doing a major update on the book. I am curious as there were only 25 copies ever printed, and I think I know where they all are!
Is there a specific family you need information on? Mother passed away in 2007, at age 94.
I am new to Roots Web, and I am having difficulty in negotiating it.
For the moderator, I am quite happy for my email to be passed on to you, so we may communicate directly.
regards
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
So sorry for my tardy reply - I've been interstate and only just come home.
The reason I wanted a copy of the book was that my great-aunt, Bridget Ellen Keating, married Lloyd William Burdett Smith and I wanted to have a rounded view of the family. I have been in touch with their grandchildren (the Farrells)by their daughter Pamela. My mother Dawn Spillane was very close to Pamela and Marie, and also had a lot of contact with Lloydette and her family when my brothers and I were young.
I was able to obtain a copy from the State Library of Victoria, and found it a fascinating read, as well as filling i a number of gaps in the family history.
I would be very interested in the update you are doing! It sounds like a big job but I'm sure you're having a fine time with it. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to ask!
Cheers,
Julie
PS: I will PM you with my email address

Great result there! Daniel may not get your PM yet Julie, as he needs 3 posts to receive and send PM's.
If you read this Daniel, just post something on here, two messages, even a smiley will do. That will bring you to the 3 posts total which then activates your PM facility.

Thanks jaybelnz. I'd forgotten that fact - it's been a little while since I was on rootschat.

Could I just point out that you are on RootsChat, not Rootsweb! ;D
Rootsweb is a separate entity, with no links to RootsChat.

And Welcome Daniel to RChat,
That's 3 posts, so all the facets of RChat are now available to you, including sending/receiving Private Messages.
