Hi Ramsay
one of my ggrandmother's was a Gillespie and I have been stumped with them,
as the family originate in Ireland, but with a bit of luck a couple of her children had children in
1855 which gave me a bit more info on where the came from
I have just started looking into them again
because I have found a cert for a Gillespie marriage and it looked like the witnesses name was Givan
I posted it on here to see if I was right, it has renewed my curiosity :D,
and being addicted to family history has given me a kick to see what I can find,
I have a pic of my dad in the army and one of the men in it is named Gillespie, he was from Port Glasgow
in fact I have that posted on here on the armed forces board to see if anyone could help with
it I will see if I can find it and add a link, maybe your sisters husband will recognise him,
Elaine

and as you can see the writing on the left hand side of the pic is so faded
even the scanner can't pick it out.
Elaine

Hi, I realise this is an old posting but I've just discovered it. I believe I'm related to Ann's sister Maria. On Maria's death certificate her parents are Edward Fury & Mary Cox also.
Maria married Michael Mclaughlin in Port Glasgow and their son also Michael also moved to govan where he married. Queen St govan also shows up in my records. My paternal grandmother is Sarah Lilley (M.s. Mclaughlin)
