Hello everyone,
I'm posting this new thread in relation to a previous one. John Christie and Isabella Henderson (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,478543.msg3375576.html#msg3375576) had a daughter : Janet (Jessie) Christie. She was born about 1893 in Fife.
This date of birth is calculated from her marriage certificate to Andrew Allan, 10 May 1922 in Cecil Gardens, Glasgow. I'm including a photograph of the mariage certificate below to better illustrate my query. From the thread previously mentionned, I have information on Janet's parents but I'm trying to find out more information about Andrew Allan and his family.
Here's what I found :
- According to the mariage certificate: Andrew's parents are Andrew Allan and Jeanie Dalrymple.
- Andrew Allan born about 1855, died in 1930, buried in Elie cemetery.
- Jeanie Dalrymple born about 1860 died in 1915, buried in Elie cemetery.(This last piece of information I found on a Rootsweb post (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SCT-FIFE/2005-01/1107027883) about Elie Headstones)
I'm looking for their birth information, either Andrew or Jeanie, or mariage information. Regarding that, I think their were married after 1881 since I did not find any census information stating that they were married before then. I have a guess that the Alexander Allan mentionned on the picture I included maybe Andrew father's but with no other sources I'm hitting the proverbial brick wall.
Thank you in advance for any help or pointers!
Great day to everyone :)

Hi. All these people can be found on Scotlandspeople.
Andrew Allan and Jeanie Dalrymple were married in 1886 at East Pitkierie farm, Kilrenny. He was a carter, aged 30, son of Andrew Allan, carter, and Isabella Cumming. Jeanie Dalrymple was 26, daughter of Alexander Dalrymple, ploughman, and Margaret Band.
Andrew Allan senior and Isabella Cumming were married in 1853 at Elie. In the 1861 census they are living in the High Street and Andrew is a farmer of 13 acres. He was born in Elie in 1822 to Andrew Allan and Mary Cowie. Isabella Cumming was 44 in 1861, and was also born in Elie.
Alexander Dalrymple and Margaret Band were married in 1854 at Kingsbarns. In 1861 they are at Pitcorthie farm, Carnbee parish. Alexander Dalrymple is 35 in 1861, born at Ceres. His wife Margaret Band is 39, born at Kemback.

Wow, thank you very much for all these informations, this will advance my research greatly! :)
For the sake of putting some meat (read background) on my research, is there any good historical/genealogy/cultural website out there about Elie and the surrounding region?
Or should I concentrate on the county itself, namely Fife?
Thanks again NorrieG and Hdw for these very useful pieces of info.
Have a great day everyone!

(oh and sorry about that image posted breaching copyright, wasn't sure.... :-\)

Hello again NorrieG,
Sorry but I have just noticed what you wrote... do you mean photographs of those inscriptions are found somewhere on the web?

I doubt if there is any genealogical website solely devoted to Elie, but you can always put queries to the Fife Family History Society online.
If you Google Elie you will get lots of hits, including a Wikipedia article. Also, a book about Elie was published in 2008 by the Elie and Earlsferry History Society, c/o Elie Library, Siward Lane, Elie KY9 1AZ, Fife, Scotland. The book is by Archie Rennie, and the title is "The Harbours of Elie Bay: A History". Despite the title, it's about much more than just the harbours.
