I'm trying to trace descendants of LILY MORETON (Born 1913 in Ashton under Lyne) (daughter of Thomas Price Moreton and Elizabeth Thelwell). Thomas and Elizabeth emigrated to the USA post 1913. In 1911 Thomas and Elizabeth had 4 other children - PERCY, FRANCIS JOSIAH, THOMAS PRICE, and MARY ELIZABETH.
Lily married Elmer Lee Beard in 1930 and they lived in Laconia, Indiana. I don't know if Lily and Elmer had any children, but would be grateful for any help to fill in the blanks on the family tree.
Thanks for reading this post.

Are you certain that everyone you mentioned is deceased? It is against the rules of Roots Chat to post about people who are living or may be living.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not finding these people. Could you give some more details? How do you know they went to the US and what information do you have on the marriage to Elmer Beard and the residence in Indiana? Are there known alternative spellings for Moreton?

Hmm - seem to remember they were elusive on the previous thread

There's a WWII enlistment record that seems to fit Elmer from 1942, and he is listed as single with no dependents. He appears to be single in the 1930 Census, too.
The Kentucky death index gives Elmer's date of death as 29 Jun. 1962 in Jefferson Co.

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for the info - after a day trawling through the records I've now found the family in Ashton up until 1911 when they had 4 children, and I found Percy and Francis' deaths - apparently from diphtheria, but I hadn't tracked Thomas Jnr because I wrongly assumed the family had emigrated by then.
Many thanks for your help.

Erato,
The surname could be spelt Morton. I know that Lily lived in Laconia at the time of her father's death in 1958 and I'm guessing that she is now deceased, but that if she had children they would possibly be living and thus ruled out for info. purposes.

Hi Sandra - I've just used the link you kindly provided to the previous thread - and am now working my way through all the information you gave. I've had gremlins in my computer this year and have lost so much info that I constantly seem to be playing "catch up" with myself. Thanks again for all your invaluable help.

Hi Jaxmum,
Hope you have the computer problems solved.
Lily seems to have immigrated to the USA after her marriage to Elmer in 1945. Could Thomas have left the UK after his wife died or much later than you originally thought. That would anwser why we don't find them on passenger lists ??
Maybe Lily didn't go back again after her return to the UK in 1958, according to the headstone she died in 1987 but I haven't seen a death record yet - unless of course she remarried ?? Still unanswered questions ?

Hi Sandra,
Computer still having gliches - being thrown through a window is a distinct possibility! I've really no idea what happened with Thomas and Elizabeth. All I've gleaned from other relatives is that he did emigrate sometime in the early part of the 20th century and that Lily was the only surviving child at the time of his emigration. After that there was a large gap until an Aunt received a funeral card which gave the date of his birth and death at the home of his daughter "Mrs Elmer Beard" in Laconia. I don't know which aunt received the card, but someone must have been in contact with Thomas' family because otherwise they would have no address to send the card to. My cousin has the card now, but she has no recollection of how she came to have it - presumably it was in her late mother's possessions, but quite how she came by it we've no idea. By 1958 the family had moved many times since the 1920s and Thomas' brothers and sisters were nearly all dead!
I think your guess that he left after the death of Elizabeth is probably near the mark - I'll try working along those lines and see what I can unearth.
Many thanks for your help.

HI Jaxmum,
Just to jog your memory really but on the other thread - reply 8 showed Lily returning to the UK in December of 1958 and going to 275 Gloucester Street, Atherton, Lancashire - does that address have any significance at all ???

This looks to be the headstone for Elmer and Lily ...

Hi Jaxmum,
Reply 2 on the original thread gave a couple of suggestions for contacts re obituary - did you ever try to go down those lines ?
Spent a little time going through the SSDI, looking for the death record for Lily and cannot see anything under Beard - not sure if anyone else has looked. Beginning to wonder if Lilly could have married again after the death of Elmer, she would only have been 49 years old.
Clutching at straws but started looking for any Lilly born 1913 and who died 1987 in Indiana - could this be a possibility I wonder - Lilys birth was registered last quarter of 1913 in the UK ???

Born 22 September 1913 and died February 1987
Last Residence: 47150 New Albany, Floyd, Indiana,
SSN was issued in Indiana (Before 1951)
