Hi All, Trying to find out any info on a Ellen Flood. Arrived in NSW Aust as a convict on the Elizabeth(4) in 1828.
She is stated as being a widow with 3 children. Also stated came from Kildare, tried in Dublin The children did not go with her to NSW.
Would they have been put in a orphanage? or workhouse?.
How can I find them?
Possible names of 2 of the children John and Martin, born Co Westmeath
Both boys married in 1852 in Sydney.
Any help would be great to solve this brick wall.

Hi. My ggg-grandmother was a Flood from The Curragh, County Kildare. Her name was Margaret and she was born around 1787.

Thankyou aj for your reply.I really don't know much about the Ellen Flood that I am looking for information about.
It is really the sons that I am trying to find out about that were left back in Ireland.
I don't know if Ellen was from Kildare or Westmeath, I know that they are county's next to each other. so either place could be possible that she came from. She was 33 yrs old when she arrived in NSW Australia as a convict.

To search for possible sons I think you'd need some clues as to Ellen's maiden name and the name of her husband. Flood is quite a common surname so it would be very easy to pick up the trail of the wrong family ... particularly with such early dates where few parishes have records.
I dont believe that counties Kildare and Westmeath have any border - neighbouring counties to Kildare are Dublin, Meath, Offaly, Laois, Carlow & Wicklow

Thanks Shane,
I don't know any more than what I noted about Ellen Flood.
Is there anywhere that I can check her trial in Dublin? that may give me some clues as to other family members.

unfortunately very few records of people transported exist at this end - usually the best details come from Australian records. The National Archives has some details, but these are limited and mostly refer to people that that were subject to appeals etc.
