Please could someone look-up a death/deaths for me.
Simeon Simcock born in 1874 in Leek, Staffordshire. Maggie Forrester/Forrister born in 1876 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
Married in 1899 at St John the Baptist, Keele, Newcastle-u-Lyme
Departed from London to Brisbane in 1900.
I'm so sorry if this is not enough information but this is all the information I have and I wouldn't even know if they moved away from Brisbane after arriving, sorry
-
Hi, There are no deaths recorded in Three states Queensland, NSW, or Western Australia for Simeon or Maggie Simcock. Do you know they definately headed for Brisbane and could they possibly have returned later to England?
Neil
-
Hi Neil thank you for taking the time to look, in answer to your question as to whether they definitely headed for Brisbane I found the following on "Find my Past" on the Passenger List leaving the UK 1890 to 1960:
SIMCOCK Simron
D.O.B. 1875
MALE
DATE OF DEPARTURE 1900
FROM LONDON
TO BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
SIMCOCK Maggie
D.O.B 1877
FEMALE
DATE OF DEPARTURE 1900
FROM LONDON
TO BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA.
There is a spelling mistake in that Simeon's name has been spelt Simron, and they both seem to have gained an extra year on the birth dates I found on Staffordshire BMD. I searched on Staffordshire BMD's and found Simeon and Maggie's births, Simeon's christening record and the marriage record but no death records for either of them, it was a relative who mentioned that my great grandfather's brother had emigrated and initially I thought it might have been New Zealand but after doing some digging around I decided to try Australia and it was suggested that "Find my Past" may help, I did and the above is what I found. I did wonder if I could try shipping lists
-
This shows his arrival as Rockhampton so a little more definite as to place.

Cass, maybe I should have gone the extra year on BDM's ;) I went to 1960 Doh :P
Neil ;D
-
Also still trying to work out how the departed a ship in Rockhampton as it is about 40 klms inland ???
Neil
-
Hi Neil
I had a look at Trove, and it looks like the shipping for Rockhampton arrived at "Port Alma".
There are a few articles regarding the arrival of the "Jumna" , it looks like it travelled down the east coast to Brisbane.

;D, Neil, mfcnt and chrisane I can not tell you how grateful I am for your help it's absolutely mind blowing what you have found for me.
The name of the boat they traveled on is now going to be something for me to look at and find out more about.
I am going to be speaking to my cousin, who was also in on the conversation with the elderly relative when she spoke about "someone" emigrating, asap this morning to ask her about a phone call she got about 15/18 months ago (her son actually took the call but he couldn't remember an awful lot and didn't have presence of mind to ask key questions such as a name!!!) from a man who purported to be calling from Australia, this may be something but it also may be nothing.
I'm sorry its taken a few days to reply to your posts as at work we are moving into a brand, spanking new hospital and its been a bit of a logistical nightmare to get clinics set up and ready for Monday and this is another area, despite the hard work, I am so excited about.
Once again thank you so so very much there really aren't the words to make you understand how grateful I am.
Polly.
Oooh this is where I show my total ignorance and say (I am renown for my total lack of geography) are we talking about Australia or New Zealand ??? cos I thought Brisbane was Australia but then you spoke of Rockport which I also thought was in Australia but then you spoke of Christchurch which I associate with New Zealand. I so sorry to appear to be so thick.
If only you could see me sitting here grimacing and pulling an ashamed face at my ignorance and hoping you don't think badly of me for it
-
;D ;D Rockhampton is North Queensland you are right, it is also inland, so I was a bit bemused to find someone alighting from a ship. Never mind my humor. It was pointed out that there was a small port near Rocky The Oz for Rockhampton. Yes Christchurch is on the South Island of New Zealand and not in Australia.
We are only the Western Suburbs of Auckland according to many Kiwi's (ergh) thats a flightless bird in NZ also an OZism for all things NZ in Australia.
The decendants of them (Simeon) may be worth finding about?
Neil
-
Thanks Neil and I went and put "Rockport" instead of Rockhampton what a ninny I am. Would you say or feel that it is NZ that I should be looking at and of course looking for Violet and any other children they may have had.
I take it your a "Kiwi", I quite like that term :) as it conjures up blue sky's and a laid back way of life but if you prefer not to be called that then I will respect your feelings and not do it again.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT?
KIWI :o
Ah no, not a New Zealander, thank you.... ;)
Silver Ferns and All Blacks and all that stuff. Ah no, we dont drop our vowels in OZ, we sort of muck em around a bit! ;D
I would definately be looking over the Tasman though for the decendants.
I will see what can be found.
Neil...born and bred in NSW AUSTRALIA.

Hi
I have had a look an A..cestry and on there is a record on the NZ 1935 E Roll
which lists
SIMCOCK, Maggie, Robert, Simon and Violet Forrester all living at 74 Bowenvale Ave, Lyttelton,
There is also a tree which indicated Violet married Frank Hamerton Demus and travelled to the USA or Canada, I only have Aussie Ance,,,stry so cannot find USA Canada records. Frank and Violet are in NZ up to 1949 as they are both on the E Roll living in Te Kuiti NZ.
I think Robert Simcock married a Doris, they are buried together, have a look at the cemetery link i gave you before.
It might be an idea to try the NZ pages, I have found that our cousins over the ditch are very helpful. (the ditch is the Tasman Sea which is between Aussie and NZ)
I hope that all has settled down in the new hospital
Regards Cass also born and bred in NSW Aussie

Did Violet actually go to US with Frank as there is a Violet Forrester Demus in the electoral rolls up to 1981 at Mt Albert and i can't pick up any record of her in canada or US
-
Umm doesn't look like either of them went to the US. Frank Hamerton Demus died 1954 in NZ. Referance # 1954/29705
So their children should also be there.
MODIFIED to add: That his age at death was given as 54 so born 1900.

Sorry , looks like Frank and Violet did stay in NZ
I have been looking at the NZ Archway site
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/SimpleSearchResults.do
did a search for Demus, and there is a record of Probate for Violet in 1987. Frank in 1954, also a few records for the Simcock's.
Also did a name search on Mr Google and found a death notice for a Donald Alexander Demus who died in 2011,( found the obit on the Hauraki Herald's Digital Edition) he maybe connected, who knows. I think I should stop looking as I may be leading us all up the garden path.

Frank could also have gone there on business and returned again anyway?
He did also have a namesake there so could be relies in US or Canada?

My my once you get the bit between your teeth there's no stopping you guys :), Thank you so much for all your information it's gone way beyond my wildest dreams I am so grateful.
You've given me so much to look at and given me things and ideas to explore so for the time being I think it might be wise to conclude this post.
Once again thank you so very much its so very much appreciated :)

Hi,
Have you used the New Zealand BDM online? Lots of Simcocks and Simcox entries: https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/
I'm related to some of these people by marriage through my father, but I can't figure out how! I have entered a lot of Simcock/Simcox family details onto Red1st.com where you can view all Trees for free.
Cheers.
