Title: Date and age of sitter, please
Post by: Rufous Treecreeper on Thursday 26 April 12 13:56 BST (UK)
Scratched on the front is 'George' and then I think probably 'Lancaster' and again on the back but in very, very faint pencil/pen.
I'd like to know the photo's era and also the approximate age of the sitter as I have no idea who George Lancaster was  ???  ::)

Thanks for any help,
Mo  :)

In the book The Mechanical Eye in Australia photography 1841 – 1900
It has

Mid -late 1870's.This is a very distinctive style of this period. Also this is an undated MIP card so probably closer to late 70's.

Thanks Jim  :)  Found a website that said Stewart and Co started at Bourke St East in 1871 so your date fits well.

So I'm guessing he looks about 16 to 20 years old, so possibly born 1855 - 1860  ???
