Searching for John & Elizabeth Maybon / Maybin immigration to Victoria about 1854-1857 possibly through Geelong.
There is a newspaper advert in 1858 by John's brother James, who had recently arrived in May 1858, asking John to write to him & it states Ship Ondine.. which wasn't James' ship so I presume it was the one John came on.
I have checked all Victoria online assissted & unassissted immigration & found nothing.
Would anyone know of the "Ondine" or passenger lists for it? :-\

A birth registered in Victoria to the couple in 1861.
Wonder if this suggests the arrival could be closer to your 1857 guess than earlier.

Did the family come from Ireland,
If Johns' parents are Patrick and Mary there is a tree on An..stry which has John Maybon born Antrim Ireland in 1822, died Victoria 9.10.1887 buried Castlemaine General Cemetery, Victoria, with a wife Elizabeth Margaret nee Talbort born 1824 Tipperary, Ireland died 28.8.1874 buried Scarsdale Cemetary, Victoria,

It seems that the Ondine was a steamship launched in 1853 and was used to carry passengers between Dublin and London. Perhaps it is just the name that James remembered when his brother departed from Ireland, not knowing which ship he boarded to come to Australia.

A letter, or a number of letters, for JOHN MAYBON are noted as unclaimed at the Ballarat PO from Septmeber 1856.
26/6/1858. ARGUS ( A month after the item you mention)
"JOHN MAYBON will hear from his brother , JAMES. Address. 11 Little Lonsdale St. East.

Not all shipping manifests survive. There is no record at PROV of the ONDINE arriving Victoria. The ship was built for the London to Dublin route [see snip attached] so it is probably that John and Elizabeth left Dublin for London on the ONDINE.

Yes, the tree on Ancestry is mine & yes they were Irish.
I had missed the one on "Trove" 1856 letters, means they were here then.
I had thought about 1854/55 originally as they were married in Tipperary Oct 1853 & first son was supposedly born in Oz 1855 but no birth record here for him & time in colony on death certs..
Thanks for the "Ondine" launch jpg. I could find very little online about the ship.
At least that narrows down my search now to 1854/55.
