This photo was found in Grandma's album. Would appreciate knowing what type of uniform
it is and a date please. The bottom right corner is imprinted S. Edwin 113 Clarence Road. No
district is visible. The reverse is in postcard format.
Thanks, Regards,
Jen.

His cap badge seems to read 342 - or 3412 maybe - a conductor on the tram or railways is my guess !
Wiggy :)

Thankyou Wiggy for your comments. Not sure if photo was taken in UK (quite possible)
or Australia.
Regards,
Jen.

it was only a guess though Jen - Hope someone else will come on and be more definitive soon!!

If it was railway I think it would have the letters of the Railway network on his collar and hat but I could be wrong.
Have you found any Hotel/Postmen/Messenger/Railway workers amongst your relatives in on the 1911 census?

I thought the cap badge looked like a crown?
So I was thinking Post Office?
-
Well . . . . it might be too . . . . . :-\ A crown I mean .

Thankyou Jim, Carol, KGarrad and Wiggy,
The family who were owners of this photo emigrated to Sydney Aust. in 1885.
I was hoping someone would know of the photo studio location.
Yes, I think it is a crown on the cap and I think each button has a crown as well.
Have not checked the 1911 census, At this point I don't have any idea of a name to look for.
The relative who emigrated had no siblings.
I guess a good start would be to identify the uniform and the place the photo was taken
Thanks again everyone.
Jen.

Sorry to intrude here, but I wondered when working men (or gentlemen) started putting front creases in their trousers.
I've seen some very smartly turned on men on the pictures in this forum, but a lot seem to have scruffy, unpressed trousers.
The gent above has very smart pressed trousers.

A google search turned up a query on SEAX, that suggested the address was in Grays, Thurrock, Essex?
Dates of Creation: 29 July 1917
Scope and Content: Blind stamp of S. Edwin, 113 Clarence Rd [?Grays Thurrock].

KGarrad, Thanks so much for locating the address of the studio, a great find! ;D
Family came from Hampshire originally.
Tootsiepie, that is a very keen observation, He does look very neat with those creases!
