Maria, if you join scotlandspeople, you can then buy the deaths of the parents, and you should get the names of their parents.

Wow!! Thank you
Maria

Silly me, Maria!
If you buy the marriage, that you found in 1860, this will also show the parents, and will be more reliable.

Thanks I will. I am having trouble logging into the scotlandspeople web site but ive emailed them for help.
Is there any trace of this family in the 1891 census? if you have access to it or i could post a new message.

Maria,
There are 38 matches for both 1891c and 1901c.
The family that have the same index numbers, are
1891c
Dumbarton.
Thomas Mogan 50yrs
John 20
Thomas 18
Margaret 16
annie 14
There are about 70 deaths of all Mogans in scotland 1855 to 195?
It seems if Ann is not with thomas in the 1891c .......she has probably passed away.
there is an ann, 39yrs 1882, dumbarton.
which could be her.
Remember that when searching, for women, you can crossreference, their surnames, I didn't do that with this Ann but , you can put the info in .........Ann ward 39 1882 dumbarton, and if it says yes there is one there then go back ,into previous searches[on the lefthand side] and up will come your previous searches. open this up and perchase the ann mogan match, this way is cheapest you use 1 credit for search and 5 credits for certificate.
If you are having trouble logging in,....... when I first joined I kept wanting to buy more that 6 pounds worth, sadly, don't try this. except that it 6 pounds and don't change the amount.
I have run out of credits.

thanks
i emailed scotlandspeople and hopefully will get a reply. it doesnt accept my ysername or password (and im using the right case)

:)
didnt find the marriage cert. i found the death cert for thomas mogan, and says hes a widower, so Ann ward (wife) died i guess between 1875? (birth of last child) and 1891 when thomas died, why is there no death certificate for her? am i looking in the wrong place.

Maria,
Here is the index you should look for on scotlandspeople.
1882 MOGAN ANNE F 39 DUMBARTON DUNBARTON 496/00 0040
I feel this is the right death of your girl.
kenjo :)

thanks again.

Thank you I must have been looking it up wrong. Ive run out of credits so when I get some more I will look up the certificates.
Heres another tricky one. King family
Father Patrick King m Helen Turner 10 july 1926 Clydebank. is there a marriage cert? would be good to find out their parents (probably irish)
Son: Fredrick King b. 8 May 1931 (i have an original of the birth certificate).
Daughter: Helen b?
son: Michael b?
son: Gerald
daugher: norah
-
Maria,
I am short on credits too :'(
1926 KING PATRICK, TURNER HELEN,
OLD OR WEST KILPATRICK DUNBARTON 501/00 0129
Tell me how you go.
See if we can get them back further.

thanks. will top up my credits tonight. And will get back to you on how i go.
-
ok i have the marriage and death certificates of anne ward thanks.
I looked up the marriage of patrick king to helen turner as you said and this is the info i have from it.
Patrick King age 32 (born 1894)
Helen Turner age 25 (born 1901)
married 10 July 1926
parents of patrick:
father Patrick (farmer)
mother Barbara O'Donagh (hard to read so not sure if its O' but its definately donagh)
parents of helen:
father George (?? labourer)
mother Bridget (bridgit) Boyle
i guess they could be in the census? I had a look but not really sure of how to limit it down to something the might be the right ones. Anyway you might be able to help me. Im not sure when either of the family arrived in scotland from ireland so they could all be in the scottish births deaths. Have a feeling that Helen was still alive in 1972 (as my husband thinks he met her).

hi,i
can you do an earlier census look up to see when Thomas arrived in Scotland? or could you tell me how to? If I can find any more of his family brother, sisters that would be good. Father is Simon Mogan (but i cant find simon anywhere, maybe not his real name doesnt sound very irish to me. Mother is Mary Kane. both are deceased bu 1891
-
Darling I just have to leave this for the moment, I am snowed under,
I will get back to you, in a week.
kenjo.
-
thanks, by the way its Barbara McDonagh (not ODonagh) that was married to Patrick King. I think a Census look up might find them and all their children.
Maria
-
Hi,
I have looked for you, and can't find any deaths that fit for mary McDonagh/king.
or Mary Kane/mogan.
nor can I find any patrick kings in the same house hold as a Barbara.
I think the kings and turners, may have come out to scotland after 1901.
and thomas mogan, may have come out, without his parents.
because there are several families, of mogans in dumbartonshire, maybe you could buy a few deaths and see if there are any connections.
the other thing you can do, is put in google, 1901census ireland, and do some long searching in the relevant counties and see what might come up.
good luck. ;)
kenjo

ok thanks i will try google.
I will let you know how i get on.

I had a look at some of the census 1901 ireland but as I dont know where in ireland they are all from its a bit hard. is there any where i could find this out from, do death cert have this info on them? I guess that Patrick King died after 1955 and I know Helen King died after 1982, should I order their death certificates?
Other than that I think Ive come to the end of my research.
Thank you for all your help.
