I am trying to order a marriage certificate from NIdirect for a marriage between William James Marshall and Isabella Martin. Ancestry.co.uk tells me that this marriage was registered in the Downpatrick registration district in the first quarter of 1908, volume 1, page 619.
However, when I go onto the official site to order, it tells me that I am unable to order unless I know the name of the town and church.
How do I go about finding this information? If I had the registration district, quarter, and volume and page numbers, I could order a certificate form England with no problem. It seems quite hard to order stuff from Northern Ireland without knowing very specific details.
I have some other information on other people in my family history that in England would ordinarily enable me to order certificates, but I don't have the fine details. ???
Any help that I can be given would be appreciated.

Hi,
7 Feb 1908 William James Marshall married Isabella Martin in Killyleagh First Presbyterian Church, Downpatrick District. Fathers' names were James Marshall and Thomas Martin.

Because the marriage occured before 1922, you can obtain the marriage record from www.groireland.ie
A photocopy of the register entry will cost you 4 euros. The application form can be downloaded from the above site and either faxed or posted to Roscommon. Just make sure you put the Vol no. etc on form.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks to you both for this information. How was this information obtained? Is there a web site with this level of information. I have found a site called http://www.emeraldancestors.com . Do either of you know if this is any good?
Would you have any more information on my ancestors if I were to give you the names/dob's etc.?
This line is on my maternal grandmothers side, and I have not been able to get too far, being here in England.

Would you have any further information on a marriage between a William James Marshall (1926-2004) and a Margaret Murphy (1925-?)
Thanks

Hi,
Emerald Ancestors is fairly good for marriages from 1845 for Protestants and 1864 for Catholics up until 1922 in what is now Northern Ireland. It does have a few marriages before these dates (from 1800) and a few after up to about 1935. The information is basic - names of bride and groom, date of marriage and location of marriage. It also has births from about 1864 to 1874 giving the parents' names and the registration district again with a few before and after. The deths are usually those which are available in the PRONI Wills Calendar free of charge.
Other sources are listed at the beginning of each the Rootschat Counties.
